Slippery when wet

Another nice cool week, in fact it drizzled a little bit which is a welcome relief.  I had to sleep with my windows closed again because it got too cold!  It feels like an early Winter upon us but I know some warmer days still lie ahead.  However, I do hope this means the Winter will be nice and frosty for a change!  But the water from sky was just enough to cover the ground to make it look wet, not enough to water all the grass and plants.  I'll take what I can get though, not complaining at all, just means no need for the AC to be on and that is a big money saver here in SoCali!  If I can get away with no more AC from now till next year, I will be a happy camper!

Weekly Update:

I had a great opportunity to visit the Disney studio archives... well ok, that in itself is not a big deal as I've been to the archive showroom many times but this time I got an in-depth tour which I was not expecting at all.  And on top of that, I got a private tour of Walt's office on the lot which is usually done in small groups. But to have your own private tour was pretty cool.  It was a really nice visit to the studio that I do miss very much.  I used to go there all the time when I was at Miramax and took the employee shuttle from our offices to there for lunch or random events.  Studio life... I want to come back!

At the movies:

For a 3rd week-in-a-row The Nun II holds the #1 spot with another 8.4 million and still struggling along.  This is a very lull time of year for movies with everyone fully back-to-school and work after the Summer breaks.  New at #2 is Expend4bles with only 8.3 mil to open and not a very shocking result.  This franchise was basically done after the 2nd (maybe even the 1st) film.  These do well overseas though with the action but the actual return on them is bad.  Drop down to #3 is A Haunting in Venice with 6.3 mil more, another film that under-performed and will fade out quickly.  Hanging in at #4 is The Equalizer 3 with 4.7 mil and looks like it will end up short of 100 mil after all.  Rounding off the top 5 and still showing strong is Barbie with 3.2 mil, already adding to it's incredible over 600 mil domestic box office.

Cool down

FINALLY we got a break in our weather and it was a nice cool week!  The weather was so nice but it's too early so I don't think it will last.  We had a lot of overcast which I'm sure helped keep it cool and didn't get to 80 most days.  Nights were nice too, low to mid 60's which is perfect to keep the windows open at night and snug under the covers.  Maybe this means our upcoming Winter will actually be a Winter?  I just want it cool and some water would be great.  I know that is what happens when you technically live in a desert but even the desert gets rain more often than we do (so it seems like).  Well, for now let's hope these temps hold longer but who knows with these weather patterns, global warming and carbon emissions.

Weekly Update:

Soooooooo sleepy this week.  Talk about no sleep and working.  I've literally fallen asleep at the keyboard once or twice.  I am not sure if its because of how slow and quiet it is working, not getting enough sleep or a combination of the two maybe?  I still go to bed around the same time which is kind of late to begin with or it varies a lot (any where from 1130 to 2A) and once I woke up at 2AM thinking it was 5AM already.  I've lost track of all time now.  How do I even fix that?!?  I need to go in a coma or something.

At the movies:

Holding the #1 spot for a 2nd week is The Nun II with another 14.7 million and now past 50 mil domestic.  At the rate it's dropping it will unlikely hit 100.  New at #2 is A Haunting in Venice with only 14.5 mil to open.  Not a strong number and will likely burn out quickly.  Drop down to #3 is The Equalizer 3 with 7.2 mil more and could still hit 100 mil at its current pace.  Also dipping down to #4 is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 with 4.7 mil and this wedding is clearly over.  Rounding off the top 5 and holding it's spot is Barbie with 4 mil extra as it had an incredible Summer run after 9 weeks!

A touch of rain...

Wow, so after a very hot weekend (in the 90's) we got rain to cap us off!  Not a lot a rain but it was very unexpected and also very refreshing too.  It occurred Sunday morning and it was a nice break, though it wasn't cold like it normally would be when we get rain but it was cool, maybe because it's Summer time still?  I don't know, weather doesn't make sense to me anymore. I've been watering some bare patches of my lawn lately after re-seeding it to get grass growing again so now I don't have to do that today!  My grass is about 95% back again which is great and has been a struggle.  If it not the heat, I would have sprinkler problems.  If not the sprinklers, birds would come and eat the new seeds.  It is always something I tell ya!!  But now that it's almost all recovered with just a couple of small spots that I need to redo, I just need to make sure my sprinklers stay working!

Weekly Update:

I've fallen into the rabbit hole that is known as... TikTok!  So the thing about this dumb app (and it really is dumb) is you don't realize how much time you have spent on it watching these random videos and it drains my battery fast.  Now, the battery drain could be due to being on it for a long time and not realizing it, that is very possible.  But there are so many annoying videos where they do not conclude or there isn't a part 2.  I seem to get all the police arrest, chase, confrontations videos along with some pimple popping and ear wax removal.  Is that all there is??  I get movie clips were have actually been pretty nice because that is how I discovered the movie Flamin Hot from Fox Searchlight and watched it on Disney+  It was really good!  So that has been maybe the only benefit of TikTok for me so far.

At the movies:

Lot of changes this week with new movies coming on the scene post holiday and Summer season.  New at #1 is The Nun II with 32.6 million.  Very strong number for this time of year and could go on to very well overall.  Slight dip to #2 is The Equalizer 3 with 12.1 mil as it continues to do OK, will struggle to get 100 mil domestic but reachable.  New at #3 is My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 with 10 mil and it feels after the first film, this franchise was done... this box office confirms it.  New at #4 is Jawan with 6.2 mil and though that doesn't sound like a high number, it's not.  However, it only opened to about 800 screens so not bad.  Rounding off the top 5 is Barbie with 5.9 mil extra as it solidifies itself in the 600 mil range and won't go beyond that but amazing Summer run!

Laboring

Labor Day Edition

Another year another labor day where some get the day off, others still have to work and do... well labor.  I usually labor on this day, in the past it used to be a 12 hour day of laboring so it's just another day for me like most holidays.  A lot celebrate it and these holidays... I don't see the point of celebrating them when you (and many many others) still have to work. It almost seems like holiday should be 2-days worth so half the work-force can enjoy the first day and then the other half the 2nd... but that isn't going to happen and not everyone will simply get to enjoy any holidays in the course of their year and work schedule.  We can't all take the same day off, the world would stop functioning... which would be pretty interesting to see.

Weekly Update:

So had some funky weather this week and can't make heads or tails out of it.  Overall it massively cooled down, thank goodness but then we had some rain and cloudy weather.  It was a bit confusing but I don't mind the rain as you know.  Now actual rain mostly came at night for a little bit and then some light drizzle throughout the days.  A lot of overcast but we had some humidity!  One day the humidity was so heavy, it was unbearable but then at 6PM, it was gone like it never happened.  Is that normal?  I have no idea because I'm not used to humidity at all. So what will this mean for the rest of this year?  Not a clue but I would just like the humidity to be gone and some consistency like we are used to here.

At the movies:

Labor Day Weekend Edition... usually this weekend isn't a strong box office draw as the last holiday for the end of Summer.  But this time we did see some good numbers, maybe it's the weather and how much warmer it is across the country, it drove people in the nice AC theatres... new at #1, Denzel is back in The Equalizer 3 with a hefty 34.5 mil.  Very solid franchise overall and should do well post Summer season. Still holding ground at #2 is Barbie earning another 10.6 mil.  Well into the 600 range, it will continue to move forward but at a much slower pace and unlikely to hit 700 but will be close.  Also holding at #3 is Blue Beetle earning 7.3 mil as it makes it to 50 mil cume and will definitely fall short of 100.  Big drop down to #4 is Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story with 6.6 mil and over a 60% drop.  Quickly out of gas and out of time.  Rounding off the top 5 is Oppenheimer with 5.5 mil and will soon be out of the top 5 but very solid film and numbers!
