Hot and humid again?!

What is happening!! We were getting nice warm temps with zero humidity so 90 degrees felt like 85 degrees but I don't know who flipped the humid switch back on!!  This is, again, not normal for us!  I don't know what is happening anymore... this weather is so confusing to me, us, anyone in California.  We are a direct heat state, not a humidity state so when it's 90, it's 90.  Not 90 but feels like 100.  If they say no rain, no rain!  Not a chance of rain if they say no rain but in states like Florida, no rain but 33% it could.  I don't understand how they can be so different but with this change in our weather, will that change our weather forecasts?  Right now they are still pretty accurate but the humidity factor is not exactly accurate but it's also not common for us at all.  Please, stop the humidity!!

Weekly Update:

Saturday had a very busy day but the morning part of it was pretty fun.  Headed up to Santa Monica Pier for a Disney Jr event.  It was for the 2nd season of Spidey and his Amazing Friends animated show.  I've seen some of the show but it does skew VERY young, for those kids who aren't in school yet and it's a fun show for that age range.  They had a Hero Course for kids to run through, a giant crawler mock up (from the show) that characters in the show travel in.  Photo opps, toy play area and snacks!  It was a pretty warm day but it was on the pier which was pretty cool and I hadn't been there in a very long time.  What was also nice is Disney had a parking spot for me!  That is a HUGE gift because parking any where in LA is such a choir!  But, it was very warm but also very fun!

At the movies:
New at #1 this week is The Invitation with 7 million as we wrap up the Summer season.  Not a big number by any means but not surprising either.  Going up a spot to #2 is Bullet Train with 5.6 mil more and now within a decent striking distance to 100 mil domestic cume.  Still has a bit to go but should get there when the film is done.  Drop down to #3 is Beast with 4.9 mil and will soon be done fairly quickly.  Holding on to #4 and has proven to be this Summer's biggest hit is Top Gun: Maverick with 4.8 mil more.  Still shy of 700 mil cume domestic but will cross that mark maybe in another week to 10-days.  Big drop to #5 is Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero with 4.6 mil and quickly rolling away.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week, coming in at #7 is Three Thousand Years of Longing with 2.9 mil and has come and gone before it opened.

Thanks Mom, for everything!

Beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend to MANY, Nancy Cheng has passed.  She was always ready to help anyone who asked from feeding them to helping find a place to live.

Some of the interesting stories she shared about her life with me or I was around for them…

- as a very young girl, she would spend time with some of General Chennault’s Flying Tiger pilots between missions.  They would give out treats to her and the other kids.

- She was the first Asian (or “International” student) at Carroll College in Helena, MT.

- Once Pat Nixon wrote her a letter after my grandfather told Richard Nixon how she was struggling living in the US… I really wish she saved that letter!

- She was one of the founders of the Rancho Santiago College Nursing Program that grew and would have a 2 to 3-year waiting list to get into.

- In 1989, took a sabbatical from teaching to visit hospitals in China and show them western nursing techniques.

- During her sabbatical, the Tiananmen Square protests and massacre occurred.  Chinese nurses and students feared for her safety and quickly snuck her out to get her back home safely to the US.

Survived by her two geeked-out techy sons who can either tell you every single Star Trek original series episode premise or recite Star Wars Episode IV line-by-line.

Thanks Mom, for everything!

Weekly Update:

Do you feel like some days you are the only one taking the crazy pills and everything is normal OR are you normal and every one else is taking the crazy pills??  That is how I felt all this week from the beginning to the end.  I'll tell someone something and then they either don't understand or did not hear what I said then the either ask me the same question for something I just said or say what I just said back to them as if it was a new thought in their head... WHAT IS HAPPENING?!?!  I had at least 5 or 6 conversations like this and I am either losing my mind or the world has... or maybe both!!  I don't know anymore but I hope it gets better soon or I may go more bonkers than I already may be!

At the movies:
New at #1 this week, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero takes the lead with 20.1 million.  A pretty solid number for not only this time of year but also for a movie of this nature.  Also new at #2 is Beast with 11.6 mil and not much else on this film, could be a quick Summer burn.  Drop down to #3 is Bullet Train with an extra 8 mil and starting to slow down.  Could still reach 100 mil but it may take a long while.  Holding the #4 spot is Top Gun: Maverick with 5.9 mil as it continues the climb to 700 mil, still a bit shy but on course for it!  Rounding off the top 5 and a big drop is DC League of Super-Pets with another 5.8 mil and these pets are probably all home by now.

Direct heat... GOOD!

HOT but not humid!

Towards the end of this week it actually got hotter (in the high 90's, some triple digits) BUT there was little zero humidity and that made such a big difference!  So with humidity it can be 80 degrees outside but feel about 90 with the air very heavy and you just feel so tired and weighted down.  With just direct heat, it was about 97 degrees one day but felt like 90 and breathable air!  Not heavy, not like you are trying to move through the air, maybe a slight breeze and it felt good.  Actually not hot at all as long as you are moving or walking whereas with humidity you feel hotter with each and every step you take!  So as long as we do not have that humidity factor, this heat is just fine and I can actually run the AC a little less or at least at a higher temp so it doesn't go on as often!  Humidity = sucks.

Weekly Update:

Ok people, you are back in your car after shopping and loaded up... LEAVE!  Found another pet peeve of mine when you are trying to find a parking spot at the mall or store (Costco!) and you wait for someone to load up their car, get in and then they just sit there... no attempt to move, they are just sitting in their car.  You have lines of cars waiting to find a spot as your local Costco has taken away nearly 100+ spaces away for gas lines (which is needed, they should have thought of that during construction).  So we have that many less spaces (actually it's more like 300 spots gone) and have to wait for you to leave so we can do our shopping and get in and out for the next person.  You see, once you are done, you leave, simple right?  Or at least I thought it was but you have some very inconsiderate folks who the world apparently revolves around.  I just want to park, get what I need and be out so the next person can take my spot... see how that works?!

At the movies:

Maintaining it's speed at #1 is Bullet Train with an extra 13.4 million as it is now halfway to 100 mil domestic.  It may not get there but it will come fairly close.  Holding at #2 is DC League of Super-Pets with 7.2 mil as it is also just over half way to 100 mil and at the current rate it will not reach that goal unfortunately.  Rising back up to #3 is Top Gun: Maverick with 7.2 mil as it continues to inch its way to 700 mil domestic... it may actually get there!  Holding itself at #4 is Thor: Love and Thunder with 5.3 mil as it slowly tapers off and will stay in the 300 mil range.  Big drop down to #5 is Nope with 5.3 mil but has already reached the 100 mil benchmark!

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as Fall comes in at #10 with only 2.5 mil for it's debut.  It was a semi-wide release with just over 1500 runs.

NOT normal!!!

WHAT the heck is wrong with this weather?!?!  This is NOT NORMAL for us here in Southern Cali with all this frak'n humidity all week!  Every day this past week it was in the low 80's but the humidity was almost record-breaking and brought us to the 90's almost every day!  At least the nights got cool around 6 or 7PM every day to mid to low 70's but but the humidity was still slightly there.  Very little breezes as well and again none of this is normal for us or makes any sense. I should have know it would get this hot though simply because we had such a dry and warm Winter.. very few days of rain that I could count on one hand and maybe double that of cold days.  It wasn't another Winter, it was just another Spring into Summer.

Weekly Update:

I've may have touched on this before I really do hate when people say "work on yourself" or "help yourself before helping others." When they talk about self and improving your life... to me that is just plain selfish to be honest.  Why not help others first or just help others and that in turn helps yourself (in my opinion).  The reward itself should be in that you help others and thus it helps yourself.  Focus on being charitable and it doesn't have to be in the monetary sense but moral or physical support.  Lending a helping hand or simply just listening at times, being available to just say hi even.  Stop with that BS of self improvement because the more you help others around you, the more you improve yourself... well, that is my opinion anyway.  Do things with others in mind because that could be nice motivation or even a muse.

At the movies:

Zooming into #1 this week is Bullet Train with a decent 30.1 million at the box office.  Overall word-of-mouth is good on the film and should carry through the rest of Summer. Drop down to #2 is DC League of Super-Pets with another 11.2 mil as it suffered a sizeable drop. Holding at #3 is Nope with another 8.5 mil and just shy of 100 mil cume mark but should get there probably end of day tomorrow. Holding at #4 is Thor: Love and Thunder with 7.6 mil extra as it continues into the 300 mil range but will end some where in that range. Rounding off the top 5 is Minions: The Rise of Gru with 7.1 mil as it continues through 300 mil range but will also end up there as well.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one again this week as the comedy Easter Sunday comes in at #8 with 5.3 mil for it's debut.  Unfortunately a very poor number, the Pilipino community didn't come out for this one.

Make this weather stop!

Wow that humidity lingered another week!  This is not So Cali weather at all!  We are a dry heat state, not this weird moisture in the air that is heating up... state!  What is happening around here?! Definitely does not feel right (nor comfortable) at all... I am not used to standing up or sitting down and breaking out in a sweat for no reason.  I mean at least other states that get this kind of weather have rain so where is our rain?  Isn't it supposed to be like a package of heat, moisture and rain?  I will say though the heat breaks quickly at around or by 6P and then it literally drops 20 degrees and the humidity is just gone.  So we get really nice cool to cold breezy evenings.  But to get to that point we have to suffer through the day, WHY!!  OH WHY!!

Weekly Update:

July is finally over... historically for me July has been a very unlucky month.  Usually bad or the worse of the year type stuff occur in July for me.  And it's nothing specific, just random things or if something bad  happened in the year, July has been worse.  And it's not saying things get or got better in August, sometimes it carries over but something about July... just always was terrible for me and this year was no exception (or maybe the worse yet?). So let's see if this theory holds up and wait to see what August and the rest of the year brings or happens.  If it gets better than yep, confirms my July theory!!  I mean I always hope things get better but they certainly never do in July... just look at the crappy weather!!

At the movies:

Flying into #1 this week is DC League of Super-Pets with 23 million for its debut. Not a great number but enough to take #1 for a week.  Drop down to #2 is Nope with another 18.6 mil and getting close to that 100 mil mark, may take another full week to get there. Holding on to #3 is Thor: Love and Thunder with 13.1 mil as it now passes the 300 mil mark, won't make it to the next benchmark but solid all around. Falling a bit to #4 is Minions: The Rise of Gru with 10.9 mil and well past the 300 mark!  Still some good legs left on this one to go a bit further.  Rounding off the top 5 is Top Gun: Maverick with 8.2 mil and will finish off short of 700 mil but what an amazing run!

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week in a semi-wide run of only 1,000 screens is Vengeance at #10.  Made about 1.7 mil which doesn't make a good per screen average.
