As September comes to an end, so does Summer ... but not our Summer weather.  It has been cooling down but still a bit warm when you are just standing in the sun or inside with no breezes.  The breezes are what kills the heat and they have been very few.  But it is still extremely dry here still and fire season is still in affect as there is no rain on the radar as of yet.  However, we don't get rain during this time anyway and just more heat and dryness.  We are a desert after all so that is to be expected.  Can not wait for Winter, rains and cold ... I want to wear my many jackets for more than a day or two!!!

Weekly Update:
Another very busy week!  It was pretty much non-stop again and little to no relief in sight.  The work doesn't bother me but what does is when people IM you for help and when they say you can't because you are helping someone who used the correct course for assistance, they get mad and badmouth you ... don't need it or you so move along.  But between e-mails, calls, chatting ... it is a lot going on and I am just one person.  They all seem to think I am their personal aide or something but, I'm not.

At the movies:
Tick tock a new #1 at the box office as House with a Clock in it's Walls brings in 26.9 million for its debut.  Pretty much on expectations and should be a quick burn.  Holding ground at #2 is "A Simple Favor" with 10.4 mil more and not much more to report on this.  Still creeping around at #3 is "The Nun" with 10.3 mil as it finally reaches the 100 mil cume mark.  Sizable drop to #4 is "The Predator" with 8.7 mil as this appears to be a fast burn too.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Crazy Rich Asians" with 6.5 mil more and could be its last hold in the top 5 after 6 weeks.

New movies did not make the top 5:
Several this week!  In at #8 is Fahrenheit 11/9 with only 3.1 mil coming in.  Very close to expectations but the screen count was way off, it was over double than expected which ... is not good.  In at #11 is Life Itself with 2.1 mil and also over double screen count with a box office below all expectations.  Finally in at #15 is Assassination Nation with 1 mil to open ... pretty bad with a 1400 screen opening.

It continues to get cooler here but not just yet.  Day time temps still in the high 80's but honestly, that is Fall for us!  I mean we are out of "fire" season however we still have so much dry brush because, well, no rain or moisture.  The nights have been chilly which is great, probably mid to high 60's but enough to keep the windows open at night.  Oh this is fun, now its starting to be darker later in the morning and sooner in the day.  So when I go to work now, its almost dark and coming home, it is dark.  So that will change soon and it will be all dark!  But I do like this time of year because it won't be AS hot but may still be warm.

Weekly Update:
Wow this past week at work has been nothing short of insane!  Many system issues and challenges with lots of work, pretty non-stop to be honest.  It was just go go go and I am tired.  Basically worked, ate, worked, slept and then rinse and repeat.  With no relief in sight, it may be a busy couple of weeks if not longer but glad its happening now instead of a holiday time frame where it would be 10 times more crazy.  But things happen so this is one of them and I am ready for a nap.

At the movies:
The hunt was on for #1 as The Predator earns top honors raking in 24 million for its debut.  Word-of-mouth isn't strong so won't hit that 100 mil cume mark.  Big Drop to #2 is "The Nun" with another 18.2 mil as it will struggle to hit 100 mil but still possible.  New at #3 is A Simple Favor with 16.1 mil, slightly below expectations but a fair number.  New at #4 is White Boy Rick with 8.8 mil and close to estimations.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Crazy Rich Asians" with 8.7 mil and just shy of 150 mil.  It is a big drop from first to fifth but the drop rate was below average.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one as Unbroken: Path to Redemption comes in at #9 with 2.4 mil and right on expectations.

As many of you have noted that use the Internet, it has been announced that Disney has required the rights to the Star Wars franchise, and in the summer of 2015, we will see the release of Star Wars: Episode VII. Herewith is my proposal for the plot of that movie.

I’ll begin with standard title sequence and John Williams’ fanfare, followed by a scroll to be written. I would like to mention that Brian De Palma wrote the original opening scroll for Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. I think it would be nice nod to the franchise if he were to write this opening scroll, then, pan down from the twin suns of Tatooine. We are now close on the mouth of the Sarlacc Pit. After a beat, the gloved Mandalorian armour gauntlet of Boba Fett grabs onto the sand outside the Sarlacc pit, and the feared bounty hunter pulls himself from the maw of the sandbeast." - Patton Oswalt as Garth Blundin on the TV series "Parks and Recreation."

9-11 Edition

This Tuesday marks the 17th Anniversary of the tragic events of 9/11 when the US was attacked on the East Coast from terrorism.  Waking up to news reports from the clock radio, thinking it was some kind of really terrible joke from the DJ and hitting snooze to only learn it was actually happening.  This was before social media so no one was posting or texting what was going on but when I realized it wasn't a joke, ran to the TV and was in utter shock.  A day that will never be forgotten.

Weekly Update:
It was a fairly nice and quiet week.  Weather starting to cool down which is awesome ... and just a steady normal week as normal it can be (I guess?).  I have no idea what this picture is of but ... its both weird and cute at the same time.  Maybe its like a animated square marshmallow?  Or just some random object with a face on it that that has arms (or legs?) and ears.  No nose, just ears and a pink top that looks like it would be a toupee if this was a real person

At the movies:
Scary takes the box office this weekend as The Nun earns a hefty 53.5 million!  Above expectations with a solid ad campaign.  On track to break 100 mil when it is said and done.  Dropping down to #2 is "Crazy Rich Asians" with 13.6 mil as it slowly climbs to 150 mil cume.  New at #3 is Peppermint with 13.3 mil and right on target.  Holding at #4 is "The Meg" with another 6 mil and still swimming around a bit.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Searching" with 4.5 mil as it starts its decline from the one week pop it got.

New films that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as God Bless The Broken Road takes #11 with only 1.6 mil to open and actually pretty much as expected as well.

LABOR DAY EDITION

Ah Labor Day ... a day celebrating those who work ... wait ... is this pretty much celebrating everyone?  I mean in some form or fashion we all work.  Maybe its a manual job or on a computer.  Working on yourself or your wealth?  Perhaps you are working on a goal or trying to figure out a puzzle!  This day is too vague but I am guessing it was intended for those who are blue collar type of jobs like mining coal or building houses and buildings.  Things where it requires a lot of manual labor and they can relax one day out of the year to BBQ ... because the weekends don't count!!  Geez, people.

Weekly Update:
This was a BUSY week!!!  Had an event on Friday for work which I was a part of organizing so several days/hours before Friday were spent in preparation for it.  Had to make sure materials were set, assignments ready and things planned.  We were setting up these nice little extended break activities and one of them was at a place called LAG.  Basically its a gaming bar with a couple of cabinet video games and then big monitors above the bar for other games like Mario Kart.  They got free non-alcoholic beverages and appetizers to enjoy while they played or simply hung out.  I would not might going back to just sit and enjoy.  I only tried a little bit of the food but it was really good.

At the movies:
Three weeks in a row at #1 is "Crazy Rich Asians," which is a rare feat nowadays.  Earning another 22.1 million, with another low percentage drop and breaking the 100 mil cume mark!  Solid word-of-mouth continues to give this film fuel as we enter the post-season now.  Holding to #2 is "The Meg" with another 10.5 mil as this fish can swim.  Gaining some ground at #3 is "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" with 7 mil more and just passes the 200 mil cume mark.  Gaining big ground to #4 (also expanded) is Searching with 6 mil for this platform release. Rounding off the top 5 is "Operation Finale" with 6 mil to open and pretty much expected.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Two this week ... coming in at #12 is Kin with 3 mil to open and below expectations by about 10 mil.  Appearing at #15 is Ya Veremos with 1.8 mil and right as expected.
