Got some rain during the week which was nice but it was extremely light so nothing that will really help out the overall dry spell. Well, we are halfway past winter and less than a month till Spring. Maybe we will get some "April Showers," then again probably not enough. At least the weather has cooled down some and the winter "summer" has temporarly passed for now.

Weekly Update:
On Wednesday night I went to this little event in Santa Monica for an upcoming TV show called Unhitched which looks and sounds cute. I think I will catch the first two episodes to see how it is. While I was at the event, I got to meet some of the cast:

*Craig Bierko- Pretty nice guy.
*Rashida Jones- Nice and very cute.
*Johnny Sneed- SUPER nice guy and very easy going!

Also on Sunday, I attended the Auto Club 500 at the newly re-named Auto Club Speedway (formally the California Speedway). The race did start after much delay due to weather however they had to postpone after more rain started to come in. Still a fun day and got to meet a couple of folks there as well:

*Troy Aikman- Very tall and nice guy.
*J.J. Yeley- The new DLP #96 driver and a cool guy.

At the movies:
Taking #1 at the box office this week is the action thriller Vantage Point with 24 million. Holding ground at #2 is "Jumper" with another 12.7 mil and not too bad of a drop. Holding even better ground at #3 is "The Spiderwick Chronicles" with another 12.6 mil. In at #4 is "Step Up 2 The Streets" with 9.8 mil and it's actually still step'n! Rounding off the top 5 is "Fool's Gold" with an extra 6.3 mil.

New movies that did not make the top 5: In a semi-limited release is a cute little film called Be Kind Rewind with 4.1 million and enough for the #7 spot. In at #13 this week is the not-so-funny comedy Witless Protection with only 2.2 mil. In at #14 is the MGM hit Charlie Bartlett with 1.8 mil.

The 80th Annual Academy Awards took place last night with some surprises but overall the picks this year were all fairly decent to great. Usually you have some in there that do not make any sense but this time ... it was good. Jon Steward, the host, did another good job and it was just a fun evening overall. Big congrats go out to the film "Once" for song and a shocker for Diablo Cody for "Juno" for Best Screenplay. Daniel Day Lewis was a shoe-in for Best Actor (my opinion) and "No Country for Old Men" takes home Best Picture (could have gone either way with "There Will Be Blood" in my opinion). Congratulations to all the nominees and winners!

PRESIDENT'S DAY SPECIAL - LATE EDITION

Happy President's Day! This particular Monday we observe the birthdays of both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. To most its just another day off from work and school which is always nice to break things up. But they are both great men in American history that we should take note. Washington, of course, was our 1st US President and lead us through the American Revolution. Good ol Abe Lincoln was our 16th President and brought us through the American Civil War. Want to learn more about them ... LOOK THEM UP!!! I do suggest searching using Yahoo though because, as I always say, Google sucks.

Weekly Update:
I attended the semi- annual "Geek Fest" on Saturday (actually it's a collector's show) and got some snaps with some pretty cool folks:

*Ernest Borgnine- What a sweet sweet man and looked pretty chipper for his age.
*Richard Hatch- From the classic Battlestar Galatica TV show and a VERY cool guy!
*George Kennedy- From great movies to TV shows and all around nice guy.
*Larry Storch- From one of my favorite classic TV shows, F-Troop and a terrific guy.
*Dick Van Patten- A very love-able and friendly guy.
*Don Marshall- Character actor and all around nice guy.

At the movies:
Action at the box office with the "actor" Hayden Christensen in Jumper takes the holiday crown with 31.7 million for a 4-day total. I say "actor" because, well he basically sucks. In at #2 is The Spiderwick Chronicles with a 4-day total of 24.5 mil. Dance Dance ... the dancing takes the #3 spot this weekend as Step Up 2 the Streets earns 21.5 mil. Wow, a myspace homepage film not make the #1 spot!? Who would have thought!! (Sarcasm in case you couldn't tell). Holding some ground at #4 is "Fool's Gold" with an extra 15 mil this weekend. Rounding off the top 5 is Definitely, Maybe with 11.4 mil.

UNO! The winner of The 132nd Westminister Dog Show is a little beagle named Uno. This was the first time a beagle breed has ever won this annual and prestiges canine event. Of course when everyone hears the word beagle, they all refer to the most famous of them all being Snoopy created by Charles Shultz. Many comments were thrown around saying, "Snoopy would be proud." Would he though? Would Snoopy even care about this or would rather be flying his dog-house-sopwith-camel against his arch-enemy the Red Baron? My money is on the Baron. But regardless, congrats Uno!

What happenend?! Where did all my rain and clouds go? The previous week it was nice with the rain and cold with mountains covered in snow, it was very picturesque. Now this week we do a complete 180 and it reached up to the low 80's in temp, no clouds and just sun! What is going on around here? Looking at the upcoming forecast, looks like more sunny weather but will drop down to the mid 70's. The one thing I hate most about this kind of weather is that you see, smell and feel the smog just collecting. I guess everyone feels they should be out on the road for the sunny days.

Weekly Update:
This past week I was pretty much out with the cold bug that was going around. I caught it from someone at work and I know about 8 others who were also sick with similar symptoms. Even though it's starting to warm up a bit, still have some congestion and coughing going on which is driving me crazy. Not sure what is worse; the cold for a week and then a month with a cough or the flu of being really miserable and out of commission for a couple of days.

At the movies:
The romantic comedy Fool's Gold takes the box office crown with 22 million to start it off. There have been a ton of specials and ads on the TV for this one but not sure if it will hold up. New at #2 is the comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins with 17.2 mil. Holding in at #3 is "Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert" with another 10.5 mil. In at #4 is the thriller "The Eye" with an extra 6.6 mil. Rounding off the top 5 is the comedy "Juno" with another 5.7 mil and a cume of over 117 million for this little film that could.

Other News:
It looks like the 3+ month long Writers Guild of America strike may be coming to an end. Saturday night a big rally was held at both New York and Los Angeles to give the members the breakdown of the deal given to them. From the reports, the overall tone of the crowd was pleasing with many cheers and standing oviations to the negotiating committee. Since Saturday night, there is a 48 hour window for the voting process and then a new deal will be officially drafted and signed by both parties. If all goes to plan, folks may be back to work as early as Wednesday although that does not help TV's "pilot season" as that time frame has passed to save. I am sure, if the major networks are smart, will go into full production as soon as they can and hope that mid-season material will be enough to save many shows into the Fall season.

Sort of a mixed week of sunny weather but it ended with a nice rain shower. I think the coming week we will see more rain but keep it coming, we still need more. After that one week we had of heavy rain, I drove by a reservoir and it was still dry! That is not a very good sign and shows that we do need more rain for a bit longer. Plus I just like sitting inside my home or office and listening to it in the background, its kind of soothing.

Weekly Update:
If anything is mispelled this week, blame the program. The spell checker is not working along with some other things and I am not sure why. Stoopid Google is all I have to say. Got sick this week with a slight cold but it has been pretty dang cold around here. For the most part been pretty ok and avoiding the sniffles till now.

At the movies:
Singing her way to #1 this week is the concert movie
Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert with a shocking 29 million! What makes this movie even more surprising is that it opened on less than 700 screens!! In at #2 is the thriller The Eye with only 13 mil, didn't see that one coming. Holding strong at #3 is "27 Dresses" with another 8.4 mil. Also holding strong at #4 is "Juno" with another 7.5 mil and just hit the 110 mil cume. Rounding off the top 5 is "Meet the Spartans" with 7.1 mil.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Surprising two wide releases that did not make the top 10 even! In at #11 is the "comedy"
Over Her Dead Body with only 4.6 mil. I say "comedy" because this movie just looks bad. In at #13 is a real comedy, Strange Wilderness with only 3 mil.

The NY Giants win the XLII (42nd) Superbowl from the New England Patriots, just cutting their perfect season short by 1 game. Considered an upset, the Pats were peg'd to win by 12 to 13 points and end up barely losing by 3 in a final touchdown from the Giants within the last minute and a half left of play. With two final "hail Mary" passes by Brady in the 3rd and 4th down, they were not able to make the connections in the final seconds giving the Giants their final win. The Giants started the season with an 0-2 record to only turn it all around to take the cherry on top of the prize. It was a close and good game throughout and it looked like the Pats were going to take it all ... but the beauty of this game, anything can happen with time left.
