KBBQ downgrade

A pet peeve of mine is when people can not follow simple directions.  I know we all miss something here and there but to not follow routine stuff time after time is just mind blowing.  This happens a lot at work or in work situations when someone can't follow a simple direction even when it's spelled out for them.  For example; put name here (with a space for a name) and someone puts a phone number instead.  Or if something says ONE entry per person yet they put multiple entries.  Or one name per spot, multiple names.  How hard is it?!?  I remember when I used to run contests for the movie theatre from the studios and we would get their entry forms.  I noticed one day (not sure if this is still the case now) that it said for Canadian residents you may have to participate in an math test to be eligible (or something like that).  I think we need things like that to ensure whoever is potentially winning something is competent to win.

Weekly Update:

What a week it has been and some where in there my days got off.  So on Tuesday I went out to KBBQ (another story on that) and I thought it was Wednesday and since then I have been one day ahead for everything, it is weird.  OK,, so for KBBQ... I went on Tuesday (thinking it was Wednesday) and to the usual spot, Gen Korean BBQ in Fullerton and that place has gone way down hill.  First off, the floor felt very oily and kind of slippery but it felt like when you clean a bowl or pan that had oil in it and you keep cleaning it because it just feels like the oil is still on there, that is how the floor felt.  The prices when up a bit but the food quality went WAY down.  Some of the usual orders we get is KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) and is chicken nuggets (NO JOKE!) with the sauce drizzled over.  We even asked the waiter and he said they changed food suppliers and that it was pretty much it.  Next is the pineapple steak (or just steak in general).  It was your basic steak but cut in half so it was kind of thin, very disappointed in that.  Then the brisket, usually I thought was a lean cut but this was almost all fat. So this MAY be the last time at this place (which is fine since there are more all over), I did leave an updated Yelp review but I don't expect they will answer or care, who knows.

At the movies:

Still holding it's note at #1 is Bob Marley: One Love with an extra 13.5 million as it draws closers to 100 mil.  It should get there when it's all said and done and a good run at that.  New at #2 is Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training with 11.6 mil to open and likely will drop quickly and out of site sooner than later.  New at #3 is Ordinary Angels with 6.5 mil and not a lot of buzz on this film so will also disappear quicker than average. Drop down to #4 is Madame Web with 6 mil and definitely will be leaving sooner than expected.  Still flying around is Migration with 3 mil in it's 10th week out and just doing well overall.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as Drive-Away Dolls comes in at #8 with 2.4 mil.  This was a wide release and didn't drive in the business for it.

It's about the drugs...

Lately I've been watching two shows in Disney+ and they are very related to each other.  I originally started watching To Catch A Smuggler and then later, when I went to continue it, I some how ended up watching Airport Security thinking I was watching the first show.  The two shows are very similar in that they both seem to originate at an airport of some kind.  Airport Security is more international and I noticed each season (8 total) dealt with one country's security.  One season was Madrid, another in Brazil, etc... and showed how they went through their screening processes from passport inspections to suitcases to packages being mailed.  I will say after watching this particular show, I want to visit all these airports!  They look pretty cool and interesting!  Then, I went back To Catch A Smuggler once I completed the other show (and still watching it).  This show also primarily deals with the airports but in the US (so far LAX and Miami) but what is interesting about this show, if they find someone who is carrying drugs or a package to be delivered, they let the package or carrier go through with it to see if they can catch the bigger fish.  There is some international teaming up on certain things but overall primarily deals with the US and within that city the airport is in to find out where certain drugs are going.  Both shows are by Nat Geo (National Geographic) and really interesting and done well!

Weekly Update:

Kind of a tiring week!  Drove home from Las Vegas on Monday but it was a good drive... other than one moment I wasn't sure if I was going to run out of gas or not.  There was a stretch of road I figured I would go to the next stop but the next stop or one with a visible gas station was over 10 miles!  And I had the low gas light on for awhile.  Fortunately the rental car I got had really good gas mileage and I made it to a station to get enough to get back home because gas out in the desert is expensive... they know they have you so they clearly charge more than the city or towns.  But, I wasn't able to get some White Castle burgers while in Vegas but I discovered one of the small stations as you leave Vegas had one with a drive through!  So, was able to pick up some sliders and fries for the road home!  I really wish we had one here but oh well... also I don't understand this math... they are $1.39 each or I could get a pack of 10 for $13.99?  So I would pay .09 more if I get a pack of 10?  I mean, it's only an extra dime but I thought buying things in more quantity should be cheaper, not more expensive?

At the movies:

Rising to the top this week at #1 is Bob Marley: One Love with a decent 27.7 million (5-day total of 45.6 mil).  Word-of-mouth is fair on this film so unsure how it will hold up.  New at #2 is Madame Web with 15.2 mil (5-day total of 23.4 mil) and this has a very negative word-of-mouth buzz.  So this coming weekend will be a big tell on how this film will perform overall.  Holding at #3 is Argylle with another 4.7 mil and is already being beat out by One Love for domestic cume.  Still in the mix and re-appearing in the top 5 at #4 is Migration with 3.8 mil as it continues to fly high!  New at #5 is The Chosen: Season 4, Episodes 1-3 with 4.2 mil to open and these probably would be better on a streaming service of some kind instead.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one, coming in at #10 with 1.8 mil is Land of Bad... is this describing the movie or how well it did or both?

SUPER BOWL?!

What??  I went to the Super Bowl! Yes, the actual game at the stadium in seats in Las Vegas!  Definitely one of those once in a lifetime type of things.  I was fortunate that a friend won tickets and I was their plus one to this one.  I have been to actual games in the past and those were fun but the game of all games for American football, the big show, the championship... it's always a different vibe.  Watching games on TV to seeing them live is already an amazing difference but from a regular (or even non-season) game to the big game is a whole new level!  The energy was just off the scale even if you don't care for any of the teams, it's an experience and I'm glad I was given the opportunity.  Will I ever get this one again?  I doubt it so will remember and savor this for the rest of my life.

Weekly Update:

Talk about some rain!!!  Beginning of the week it rained HARD all day and night for 3 to 4 days.  We sure needed it and everything smells, looks and feels so clean. I heard we received enough water is our reservoirs to provide 65,000 people water for a full year.  That sounds like a lot but... there is over 3 million people in LA and Orange County plus the Inland Empire and not to mention San Diego.  So it's a really good boost and with the mountains covered in snow, that will also help further but, we need more rain.  This was a good down pour though and it helped.  We can't let up our conservation efforts though.  If we continue then maybe we can make this last or stretch it out till the next big down pour.  We just need seasons again.  Growing up it would always rain some in December, a lot of January and more in February.  Now we don't know when we will get any and that is a problem... one I don't think we can fix, sadly.

At the movies:

Maintaining the #1 spot is Argylle for a 2nd week and earning another 6.5 million.  Struggling along but this weekend expected to be low overall with the Super Bowl game and other televised events surrounding it.  New at #2 is Lisa Frankenstein with a disappointing 3.8 mil to open.  Cleary was trying to counter-program the game with the female audience but failed... could the Taylor Swift factor draw that audience in to watch the game??  Still doing well at #3 is Beekeeper with 3.5 mil and continues to buzz slowly along.  Also holding but dropped a bit to #4 is The Chosen: Season 4 with an extra 3.2 mil and will eventually fade out to streaming services.  Still in the top 5 is Wonka with 3.1 mil more and continues to perform well!

Rain again!!!

The end of this week ended nicely with some water from the clouds!  More rain and it's expected to rain even more next week so I hope that is true and doesn't change unless it changes for even more rain!  Though I can't see the mountains right now but I hope they are getting covered in snow so we will have some fresh water supplies for the Spring season.  Also, just seeing the mountains with snow covering is very picturesque and just so nice and Winter wonderland vibes.  I wish we could see that year-round because then we would have a fresh water supply forever but, unfortunately that is not how it works here.  But keep it coming please, we need it desperately here (as we always do).  People complain about the water supply but honestly, Southern California is technically a desert so not sure what they were expecting?  I complain because I see a lot of waste of water.

Weekly Update:

I can't recall if I talked (or wrote) about this before but I was at Costco on Saturday and decided to get a hot dog for a quick early lunch.  I didn't notice this but their condiments have changed since the Covid closure (I believe).  They only have 3 condiments now which used to be more... so right now it's ketchup (2 pumps), mustard and relish... Before it was ketchup, mustard, deli mustard, relish and then there used to be a hand crank wheel for diced onions.  I used to get the ketchup, deli mustard and onions but I can understand why they didn't back the onions since reopening.  I'm sad about it because I liked a little onion on my dog but I also miss the deli mustard.  I mean regular mustard is fine too so not a big loss there but the onions, I do miss those but I also remember that area was always such a mess from people just turning it (especially kids) and not having anything underneath to catch it all.  But... I do miss the deli mustard and onions.

At the movies:

Finally some new movies mixing up the rankings again!  New at #1 is Argylle with a fair 18 mil to open.  Word-of-mouth is good on what is described as a car heading into onward traffic, fun but all over the place.  Also new at #2 is The Chosen: Season 4 but this is from Fathom events who do concerts instead of regular releases.  This may not be around another week but it still made 7.4 mil at the box office.  Drop down to #3 is Beekeeper with 5.3 mil extra and just shy of 50 mil cume mark.  Following down to #4 is Wonka with 4.8 mil and now just over the 200 mil cume arena!  And rounding off the top 5 is Migration with 4.1 mil and continues to solidify into the 100 mil realm.
