COLUMBUS DAY EARLY EDITION

This is a special early edition blog for a couple of reasons. My surgery was postponed to Monday so that gives me an extra week to post before taking a short hiatus. Plus, it's also another holiday upon us for everyone to chill and relax an extra day. So to the great explorer I say, "THANKS!" and wish we still wore funny hats around the town ... or city or villa.

Weekly Update:
So this past week was pretty much the same as the previous week except I actually got out a few times! Only reason because I had a few doctor appointments for all the pre-surgery type of stuff. Mobility was a little better and it was good to get out a few times and drive around.

At the movies:
Comedy takes the box office reign again as "The Game Plan" holds onto #1 with 16.3 mil for this light holiday weekend. New at the #2 spot is The Heartbreak Kid with a disappointing 14 mil and I am sure they were expecting first place as well. Dropping down to #3 is "The Kingdom" with another 9.3 mil. At #4 is "Resident Evil: Extinction" with an extra 4.3 mil and pretty close to being extinct itself now. Rounding off the top 5 is The Seeker: The Dark is Rising with only 3.7 mil and the dark has won.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Only one this time around and I think its safe to say that J-Lo has box office taboo associated with her right now as Feel the Noise feels the dumpster with 3.4 mil and the beat stops.

Other News:
Baseball play-offs are in full swing and this is when it's actually fun and exciting to watch. The rest of the year is pretty boring and uneventful for the most part but October is when we narrow the playing field with just a handful of teams. Looks like the Angels are now out as the Red Sox's sweep them out of a shot for the championship. Well, the Angels had a great year being one of the top teams with one of the dumbest names in the sport being The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. I am now waiting for The San Francisco Athletics of Oakland and The New York Yankees of New York ... seriously!

Warm days but cool nights has been the recent weather and suppose to continue in that fashion for another week. I guess that is Fall-like weather as it gets cooler overall but I remember 2 years ago So Cali never left the summer till February hit. I suppose we are more on track these days which is good! I am sure crazy weather confuses the animals.

Weekly Update:

The Duckburg Gazette might take a hiatus for a couple of weeks based on my post-surgery recovery time. Right now it is set to take place on 10/4 but that could change based on any paperwork tie-ups. So the press will stop for a bit but hopefully not to long.

At the movies:
Family comedy takes the off-season box office crown with a in-season football movie
The Game Plan scoring a nice 22.7 million. New at #2 and a little under-whelming is the high drama The Kingdom with 17.7 mil. Big drop to #3 is "Resident Evil: Extinction" with only 8 mil. Another big drop to #4 is "Good Luck Chuck" with 6.3 mil more. Rounding off the top 5 is the western "3:10 to Yuma" with another 4.2 mil.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Not only did it not make the top 5, it missed the top 10! MGM's Feast of Love earns the #11 spot with only 1.7 mil and that is very sad considering the caliber of actors in it.

Other News:
Sunday, Lois Maxwell passed away and to many you may ask, "who is that?" To many she was know (and to me) as the definitive "Miss Moneypenny" from the James Bond series of films. Having reprised the role for 14 Bond movies, she passed away near her Western Australian home at the age of 80 after her fight with cancer. Her first film playing the role, secretary to M, was opposite Sean Connery in "Dr. No" which is considered the first real Bond film. Her final Bond film was in 1985's "A View To a Kill" opposite Roger Moore. The role has seen new faces and young talent but ... she will always be THE Miss Moneypenny to me.
