Dry

Turned out to be another nice week weather wise!  The high was maybe low 80's and the nights were 60's ish at the lowest.  But next week looks to be a return to Summer with a couple of days in the 100's (so far).  At least we have the clean air back (kind of, more cars are back on the road again) and no more ash rain.  The smell of smoke has cleared and now all we need, a little rain to wash everything at once.  Just a little rain would be nice ... a few drops here and there maybe?  Anyone?  Rain makers?  That isn't a thing anymore??  What about at least a rain dance for the placebo effect?

Weekly Update:

So this is kind of cool, on Thursday, September 24th at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, Disney unvieled at the old ESPN site a mural for Chadwick Boseman giving the Wakanda salute to a little boy wearing a Black Panther mask.  This is more than just a tribute to the man who portrayed the Black Panther on film, T'Challa.  It is for a man who had a very short legacy with us before he passed away last month due to cancer.  He worked on three movies while sick and visited and supported others (mostly kids) who were struggling in hospitals as well.  He never forgot the gifts he was given and shared them till the very end.  It is also during a time of mass civil unrest in this country ... and being a beacon of some light and hope in these very dark times we are in.  Wakanda Forever!

At the movies:
A little bit of an odd weekend as you will see one retrospective movie on the top 5.  Holding ground at #1 is "Tenet" with another 3.4 million and now at 41 mil cume.  More theatres re-opened this weekend which I am sure is helping it maintain the #1 spot.  Holding at #2 is "The New Mutants" with 1.1 mil more as it approaches 20 mil overall.  Also holding at #3 is "Unhinged" with 1 mil and it is also closing in at 20 mil.  Quick pop-up at #4 is "Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back" with 900k and I'm sure many enjoyed watching it on the big screen again.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Infidel" with 745K as it makes it way to 3 mil cume which is kind of average in general for a film like this.

Worst site ever!

A much better week this past week then the previous one on both weather and air quality.  The fires for the most part have either subsided or greatly reduced.  The hot temperatures were better, still hot, but the nights helped out by dropping down in the 60's.  We did have a nice 4.8 earthquake not too far in the middle of the week ... I feel like that can happen when you have some high varying temperature changes going on all the time.  Plus the shifting of the earth plates help too.  But as far as earthquakes go, it was a nice shaker and lasted for maybe 3 seconds (but always feels like 10) and no visible damage.  Definitely anything under a 5 is a ripple for us plus we have earthquakes going on all the time, we just don't feel them unless they hit maybe a 3 or higher.

eekly Update:
This new blog site just flat out SUCKS!!!  I know I've complained about it in the past but it keeps getting worse and worse.  What improvements were made with this move?  None that I can see so far and things are just getting worse especially with picture adding and placement.  I finally provided some feedback but will that even help or be read and recognized?  I don't know and if it does, will they or can they even do anything?  How difficult was it to bring the add photo/image from the old site to the new?  Why did they have to add 1 or 2 additional steps and change the format when it was just fine and ... I don't know, worked?  I very much dislike new programs that replace old ones to help make things easier but a lot of times, they make it even more complicated.  A prime example is when businesses started using a program called zendesk for e-mailing customers back ... HOW can you make e-mailing so much more complicated?!  Not sure but they found a way!

At the movies:
For the third week in a row, "Tenet" remains #1 with 4.7 million and now about a 36 mil cume.  Hard to say if this is good or great but I think it lands some where in between with the limited capacity.  Holding at #2 is "The New Mutants" with 1.6 mil and it has a cume of just over 17 mil so far.  New at #3 is Infidel with 1.5 mil and a good number for an independent studio.  Dropping down to #4 is "Unhinged" with 1.3 mil and a cume of just over 15 mil from another indie studio.  Rounding off the top 5 is "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" with 210K being added to it's 4 million cume.

Just a bit of fire ...

So if the pandemic and the heat wasn't enough for us ... fires.  I guess for California it is fire season but for the entire West Coast?  One of the main fires that started in Southern California was due to a baby reveal party which lead to an all-out major fire.  But even though that was one of the bigger ones earlier in the week, now the entire West Coast of the US is on fire. All the way up through Washington state to close down near San Diego ... almost border-to-border actually.  I'm not sure the cause of 99.9% of these fires but the entire West Coast has been under a huge cloud of smoke, raining ash and very yellow and orange light constantly for days.  I think it was about Saturday we stopped seeing orange and just a thick grey.  I am not sure if that is better, it may mean the fires (or some of them) are out now but the air quality is so bad.

Weekly Update:
This past Friday, Orange County (OC) was allowed to re-open indoor dining at restaurants.  The OC had been taken off the Covid watch list about 2 to 3 weeks ago as we had no new reported cases.  What does that mean?  MASKS WORK!!  Staying home works!  Social distancing works!  But because of this, I went to Korean BBQ on Saturday night, it was delicious!!  I know a lot of places were setting up outdoor areas to stay in business but it has been so hot, I would not want to sit at a table with a very hot cooking area in front of me producing more heat towards me!  And even when it was getting darker, many nights recently it was stayed 90 degrees!  Now fortunately this past week the night temps dropped into the 70's and 80's BUT smoke.  With all the fires up and down the whole West Coast, the air quality is so bad and we had ash rain a couple of days.  Yet another reason to wear a mask.

At the movies:
Holding ground at #1 is "Tenet" with another 6.7 million and now almost 30 mil cume.  Not sure what this would equate to with a normal box office run but very good numbers with all things considering.  Holding on to #2 is "The New Mutants" with 2 mil more and up to 15 mil now.  Holding at #3 is "Unhinged" with another 1.5 mil and doing well for this indie studio.  Coming in at #4 is "The Broken Hearts Gallery" with 1.1 mil for it's limited debut.  Probably not a lot on this film but with the way releases are now, could do fairly well.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Bill & Ted Face the Music" with 260K but this is is after their VOD release several weeks ago.

HOT! HOT! HOT! with a side of frozen.

Labor Day Edition

HEAT RECORDS!!!  Wow, this past weekend saw record breaking heat for SoCali!  On Saturday we hit around 114 degrees and then on Sunday, about 112!  Both were dryer heat than the humidity we have encountered lately which doesn't bode too well because that kind of prompts fire starters.  What really sucks is the night ... on Saturday night it stayed low 90's till about midnight, it never dropped below 82 degrees till Sunday morning.  Then by Sunday 9AM, it got to 80 again in not time.  That is the really crappy part is when it gets dark, you hope it will cool down quickly but not these past two days ... insanity.  I hope this weather goes away soon!

Weekly Update:

So I learned something recently and I can't remember if I shared this already or not ... so if I did, oops.  If I didn't, here ya go!  I learned that frozen fruits (not sure about vegetables) are better than buying fresh.  The reason is when a fruit is picked, say a strawberry or blueberry, it goes through the same sorting and cleaning process but as soon as it is done, the frozen one gets frozen right away ensuring it captures the freshness right after.  If one is being shipped off to be "fresh" at the market, it then gets packaged and goes through that process.  Then it has to be stored before it gets shipped but that storing isn't freezing but just refrigeration.  Then it gets shipped (again in just refrigerated trucks), delivered and eventually put on the shelves for you to buy.  Now it is still safe and all but the quality of freshness may not be exactly what you would think after you let a frozen one thaw or even eat it frozen!

At the movies:
Numbers continue to grow which is great!  New at #1 is "Tenet" with an amazing 20.2 million to open.  Word-of-mouth is strong on this film but with today's trends unsure how films will continue right now.  Drop down to #2 is "The New Mutants" with 3.5 mil more.  Holding at #3 is "Unhinged" with 2 mil more.  In at #4 is "The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run" with 475k.  Rounding off the top 5 is "The Personal History of David Copperfield" with 470k more.
