It is all sweaty in here!!  So with this humidity I haven't done this in a long time but one day I had to shower 3 times and change clothes 3 times because they were drenched in sweat.  I wasn't even doing anything either but trying to just ... stand there.  At one point I got out of the shower, put on shorts and shirt ... and could start to feel sweat drip down my face.  This is not our weather one bit and I have never done that here, ever.  In other places, sure but they have expected humidity!  But here?  NEVER!  I wonder how are fall and winter will be now.  Up till recently our Summer has been amazingly cool so are we shifting in some way?

Weekly Update:
My new car had its first oil change after 7 months.  With my working from home my commute is very short!  So I have about 2400 miles (instead of 5k) but after 6 months it was time to bring it in anyway. I guess they say every 5k or 6 months?  I mean that sounds reasonable and for this first one it was free too.  They have a very nice lounge there which is very comfortable along with free drinks and snacks ... most importantly free wi-fi!  I knew this was going to be a short service so I opted to stay instead of getting a free loaner.

At the movies:
As predicted, "The Lion King" remains at #1 for its 2nd week earning an extra 75.5 million and now has reached 350 mil cume.  Continues on its path of 500+ for domestic.  New at #2 is Once Upon A Time in Hollywood with a big 40.4 mil to open!  Well above expectations and good  word-of-mouth on it.  Definitely an early award contender as well.  Holding ground on at #3 is "Spider-Man: Far From Home" with 12 mil more.  Also holding ground at #4 is "Toy Story 4" with another 9.9 mil as it is inches away from the 400 mil mark!  Could get that by the end of this week.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Crawl" with 4 mil as it slowly crawls away.

HUMID??

I am not sure where I am now!  It has gotten very humid for some reason and that is so unusual for us.  The heat is about right, low 90's or high 80's but it feels like 10 to 15 degrees warmer with this thick air. Not like SoCali at all, this is Florida weather which is not nice.  At least, hopefully, this will fade at some point where as they get it almost the majority of the year!  It is pretty miserable I have to say.

Weekly Update:

Not a lot happened this week that I recall.  AC is still broken and another company hasn't been in touch about a broken ceiling fan.  The fan itself is good but the light portion is out and they were supposed to check on it but haven't gotten back.  It has been at least week to so I better follow-up on that soon.  The one pictured is not the kind of light I have (or color of the fan) but I just found it on the web and I kind of like it.  I like that sort of rustic old time desk fan look but for the light portion ... I know they won't replace it with one like this if it needs to be replaced altogether but it is kind of nice.  But another problem is that one would probably hang too low with that casing around the light and its not a high ceiling room at all, in fact pretty average standard.  But oh well, thought it was a nice picture.

At the movies:

A BIG ROAR at the box office as The Lion King smashes with a big 185 million opening.  Word-of-mouth is good and should carry to an 1/2 a billion domestic gross plus some.  Dropping down to #2 is "Spider-Man: Far From Home" with another 21 mil as it just passes 300 mil cume.  Holding ground at #3 is "Toy Story 4" with 14.6 mil as it continues its climb and should reach 400 mil.  Holding at #4 is "Crawl" with another 6 mil and could be sunken away soon.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Yesterday" with 5.1 mil and continues to get positive word-of-mouth.

HOT!  It sure heated up this past week, in the high 80's with maybe a day or two in the 90's.  Has our Summer finally arrived?  I haven't checked the coming forecast but to top this heat wave off, my AC has problems!  I guess the condensation run-off tray got rusted and thus clogged.  So it was dripping into the tray all last week and the week before, filled up and then overflowed.  So I had this crazy drip coming from a light fixture.  No idea what it was and cut the water off to the house, still dripping.  Called out an emergency plumber and they went into the attic to find the problem.  Of course they can't fix it since its part of an AC unit (even though it involves the plumbing of the AC unit) ... yeah, go figure.

Weekly Update:
Went a visited Batuu again (Disneyland's Star Wars Galaxy Edge) and it was still pretty packed.  Not sure what all these reports are saying of how empty it is, sure wasn't and this was a Wednesday night.  The one ride in the land is a bit misleading because the line is constantly moving so people may think that isn't crowded but in reality, it is very busy.  It just moves so efficiently that you never stand still for more than about 30 seconds!  So well run and the flow is amazing.  So do not believe the reports, it is full.  May not be packed but still a busy area and so much to go back and see again and again.

At the movies:
No surprises this week as  "Spider-Man: Far From Home" holds on to #1 with an extra 45.3 million and now shy of 300 mil mark.  No doubt it will have that by the end of this coming weekend.  Hanging on to #2 is "Toy Story 4" with another 20.7 mil as it struggles to hit 400 mil but will definitely fall short when it is all said and done.  New at #3 is Crawl with 12 mil to  open and on target.  Not a whole lot on this so it will likely drop fast.  New at #4 is Stuber with 8 mil and below expectations.  Fox post merge still unable to get a movie opened.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Yesterday" with another 6.8 mil as this week could be it's swan song.

4th of July Edition

This past Wednesday we celebrated the 4th of July.  A celebration of our country's freedom from British rule but now just a night of firework shows that do nothing but scare all kinds of animals. Plus as a nation, we are so divided and broken that to celebrate just does not seem to be right given our current political climate.  We are a national bully and have become so hated across the world except those countries that were our enemies and suppress their own people.  We are broken and now fireworks are simply annoying and make it terrifying for our furry friends.  I had to make sure the thunder shirt was on the youngest dog, windows and blinds closed, TV on load to try and drown out the noise that went on till the next morning.  Tried to hold him for comfort but could only feel him shaking like crazy.

Weekly Update:
A whole lot of shaking going on!  So on Thursday So Cali was hit with a big 6.7 earthquake in an area called Ridgecrest, about 150 miles north of Los Angeles.  It was a steady roll and fairly big compared to what we've had lately.  Then on Friday we had three fairly noticeable quakes, again in the same place and it made if feel like one long quake.  The first was about a 5.0 and then less than a minute later a 7.1 and then right after a 6.4-ish.  With 3 big ones back-to-back like that it certainly felt like a big long one.  What is also interesting is Ridgecrest, never heard of it till these quakes started happening.  Aftershocks continue but all are under 4.0 so far.

At the movies:
Swinging in and taking #1 this holiday weekend is Spider-Man: Far From Home with a 5-day opening of 185.1 mil (3-Day 93.6).  Very close to target for the weekend numbers and word-of-mouth is great on this film which should land it close to 400 mil domestic.  Drop down to #2 is "Toy Story 4" with another 34.3 mil as it now passes 300 mil and on its way to 400+ domestic.  Holding at #3 is "Yesterday" with 10.8 mil as it continues to sing a little longer.  Drop down to #4 is "Anabelle Comes Home" with 9.8 mil and will soon scare off.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Aladdin" with 7.6 mil and quickly losing all it's magic.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as Midsommer comes in at #6 with 6.6 mil and close to expectations.  Many were confused with the ad campaign and what the movie actually was.

Monday, July 01, 2019

Well, it started ... to heat up this week.  It did remain fairly cool but as the week went, it got warmer and warmer.  I did have to turn on the AC one day but not very long so not completely crazy hot, just warm with no breezes. The forecast shows mid 80's for the coming week but the days that were warm this week said low 80's ... oh and we have 4th of July coming up mid-week as well.  No plans for the evenings next week except for making sure all the windows are closed and trying to figure out how to mask the fireworks since one of the pups always freaks out and it freaks me out because they constantly shake.  I don't mind fireworks but I do not like what they do to the poor dog.

Weekly Update:
A burger vs. a salad ... so there is a movement, could have been around for decades but to eat healthier, having alternatives and not eat as much meat.  Yet meat still seems way cheaper in terms of like a burger.  So the other day I got a nice Salad and with my $1 off coupon it was about $9 with tax.  Then before that, I got a pretty good size fast food burger, cris-cut fries and a large drink all under $8 with no coupon.  So in terms of feeling well feed and full, both the same.  In terms of health-wise, who knows to be honest because of dressings and what the chicken in the salad was coated in.  But in terms of value ... the burger was by far a better value.  I thought veggies and stuff were supposed to be way cheaper??

At the movies:
No surprise at #1 as "Toy Story 4" continues it's hold with another 59.9 mil and now surpasses the 200 mil cume mark.  Pretty significant drop and now on course to be under 500 mil total.  New at #2 is Annabelle Comes Home with 31.2 mil and above expectations.  Word-of-mouth is middle of the road on this and may end up below 100 in the end.  New at #3 is Yesterday with 17 mil and close to expectations.  Good buzz on this film but still may not push too far, definitely under 100.  Holding on to #4 is "Aladdin" with 9.3 mil as it just passed the 300 mil mark but the magic in this film is all dried up.  Wrapping up the top 5 is "The Secret Life of Pets 2" with 7.1 mil and could be it's last week here.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as The Other Side of Heaven 2: Fire of Faith comes in at #20 with only 430k to open and no surprises here.
