June Gloom!

It's a real thing!  I know it's like a old saying and how the weather gets gloomy in June when it's the Summer time but this whole last week, nothing but overcast every day (almost) and it kept the temps to the high 60's up till almost noon.  There is forecasts of rain for the upcoming week, if so that will be a nice surprise and refresh for us.  Rain is always welcome and the more the better as we continue to be in our drought with no hope of recovery ...

Weekly Update:
I was driving around a little bit this past weekend and I saw the dreaded firework stands starting to be put up.  Not open yet but the structures are in and I guess they will be open and selling soon.  Can we maybe skip them this year because of the dumb people who have been firing them off every night since Memorial Day?  Can we just get a break from them not going off at 1 and 4 AM in the morning, scaring all the dogs and waking me up.  Not because of the noise but trying to calm down my dog who is terrified of them and I know I am not the only one.  These are probably the same people who don't wear masks when out in public and do not care about anything but themselves.  Simply selfish, irresponsible and also illegal when it's not on a designated day (4th of July).

At the movies:
Due to theatres being closed for the time being, no new updates for movies at this time.

The Palace Theatre in Lake Placid, NY.  This historic theatre has been around since 1926, it was once advertised as "The Pride of the Great North Woods." In it's earlier days, it was home to recitals, vaudeville acts and silent movies.  Now a four-screen theatre, it shows everything from first run to festivals and classic films (along with other events and celebrations).

Coooooool!!!!  I thought this past week was going to be hot but turned out to be amazing weather!!  Almost every morning was overcast till at least 10 or 11AM and then if it got warm, it was after 1 or 2PM.  But the breezes were so amazing throughout the days so that kept everything so nice.  I am not sure how long this unseasonable weather will last but it was both a nice surprise AND welcome treat for us.  I have no idea where that picture is from but that is what it felt and looked like almost all this past week.

Weekly Update:
I love it when things go wrong ... but in your favor!  I had ordered a couple of games from Box Lunch because they had a sale on certain items for 20% and both of the games I wanted were on that list!  So I ordered them and never received any updates or notifications.  After almost 2 weeks (13 days to be exact), I called the store since if you ship it to a nearby store, shipping is then free.  They said they had it and I told them great, I will come pick it up tomorrow.  So tomorrow being the 14th day, I did not know there was a time limit so that morning they refunded the order but again, no notification.  Luckily the lady I spoke with the day before was the one who helped me and had the items set aside anyway and also gave me an additional discount!  So not only did I get it on sale but then saved an extra few bucks on top of it!

At the movies:
Due to theatres being closed for the time being, no new updates for movies at this time.

The Queen Theatre in Bryan, TX was originally built as a hotel in the 1800's.  In the early 1900's the hotel started showing silent movies on the ground floor and in 1914 was officially given the name The Queen Theatre.  It wasn't till 1939 it was fully converted to a movie theatre and "5th Avenue Girl" with Ginger Rogers was their first official movie.  It still operates as a single screen theatre and events venue.  Can be used for special events and occasions for both public and private use.

This past week overall was hot!  It was scorching hot but with the windows open, there was no cool breeze going and so, had to turn on the AC for a couple of days.  It stayed hot too up till when it got dark.  It is June which is the starting point of Summer for us.  I guess two days out of the week isn't too bad but will there be much more soon?  Heat rises so having my home office on the 2nd floor doesn't really help.  When I go downstairs for something, you can definitely feel it much cooler or at least 5+ degrees cooler.  Maybe down the road I should consider moving my office downstairs ... but at the same time the area it would be, I want to put the dining room table back in.  I don't know ...

Weekly Update:

I went out and ate at one of my favorite pizza places this past week.  I will have to say with the concrete floors and the factory style ceilings it feels already sterile in that place except for one thing ... no matter what you will always walk out of there smelling of pizza.  My guess is because of the oven in the middle of the set-up station and really does fill the place up with the smells of cooking pizza but at the same time, collects on your cloths so when you leave, it comes home with you.  I mean I will still go again but just saying ... I need to remember not to wear 100% clean/new clothes!

At the movies:
Due to theatres being closed for the time being, no new updates for movies at this time.

The Senator movie theatre in Baltimore, MD.  The last single-screen theatre in the city, originally built in 1939.  Unsure if it is still being used to show any films but does hold special events and presentations for occasions/rentals.  One of the big drawn curtain screens during the golden era of Hollywood films with a moderate stage just in front of the screen before the rows of seats start.

Cold and rain?!  This was a really strange week of weather and I have no clue what is going on.  So for the most part, it remained very cool this week which was so nice.  Even on the sunny days that were slightly warm, very cool breezes came through and made it cold!  Then 2 or 3 days it got super cloudy that I thought it was going to rain.  I know it did at least one day but only enough to get the ground wet (which is how I knew it rained).  Then later that same night, I could feel a slight drizzle coming down when I was outside.  A few days when I was just resting and taking a break from working, I had to get under my bed covers because it was so cold outside (had the windows opened) and we are in June!  This weather is really strange but at the same time I am loving it and hope it stays this way longer!!

Weekly Update:

Mid-week I went to the store to see if they had some things I needed.  There was this elderly couple doing their shopping and I'm sure it wasn't intentional but every aisle they went down, they pretty much blocked it.  The would stand 2 to 3 feet apart going side-by-side with the cart in front of them and both being somewhat larger, they literally blocked the whole shopping aisle oblivious to everyone around them.  With social distancing these days, no one could get around them even with the subtle clearing of your throat, they just continued looking at the shelves ... at least they were wearing masks.

At the movies:

Due to theatres being closed for the time being, no new updates for movies at this time.

The historic El Capitan Theatre in downtown Hollywood, California.  One of Hollywood's premier locations and still operates as a movie venue for both first run and retro films along with special events (including movie premieres) and corporate presentations.  With it's updated marquee, it lights up the street up and down the block.

A mix of weather, interesting.  This past week was really confusing and interesting weather-wise!  So had some days of Summer like weather, hot and in the high 80's.  Then a day of Spring like weather, some breezes in the low 70's (it was really nice).  Another day of leaves falling and like a change much like Fall.  Then finally at least a day of cloudy weather that it got so dark during mid-day, had to turn on the lights for a bit.  And it was at least in the high 60's, much like Winter.  I swear it felt like I went through a year of seasons!

Weekly Update:
I need gloves!  So with the current pandemic, people are using masks and gloves all the time or at least way more than they used to.  I know gloves can help but not by much so there is a very short supply of them.  But why do I need them?  I discovered I reduce my waste with these gloves.  OK so I use these poly disposable glove (500 count) for one thing ... dog poops!  I discovered several years ago that when I use a plastic bag, I end up using 1 bag per dog at least 2x a day (usually morning and night after meals).  So that is 4 dog bags a day ... now with these gloves, I only need one glove per morning and 1 per night.  And then I put the put in a plastic bag which I dispose of once a week.  So instead of 2 (dogs bags) x2 (a day) x7 (days a week)= 28 bags (if not more) a week.  With the gloves, it's now 1 x 2 x 7 + 1 = 15 gloves a week. Also the gloves are smaller (or less materials) than the dog poop bags.  I need more gloves soon!

The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.  First opened in 1903, it used to alternate between live stage shows and movies.  They continue to operate showing movies for special events and occasions along with art or limited release features.
