Starting to cool off finally and how this Summer was ... full of humidity which is not typical for us!  Fires, yes, heat, yes, miserable, yes ... humidity? NO!  Just happy the temps have dropped, can open the window at night with no AC and the days are manageable again.  It really has been a miserable Summer though with the humidity ... maybe one of the worst because the temps would be in the high 80's or low 90's but feel over 100 because of that.  This is NOT normal at all for us!  This may be normal for Florida but our heat has always been fairly drive which is why we are always in a drought.

Weekly Update:
This was a pretty boring week with lots of no sleep!  Worked a lot but it was busy work, fell asleep while watching TV a lot which rarely happens.  It must have happened at least 2 or 3 times this week.  But aside from that, just a bored puppy, much like this picture I found.  He is doing what I feel right now with a side of tired.  I need more sleep though for sure but an extra hour a night would be nice!

At the movies:
Amazing numbers at #1 this weekend as "Crazy Rich Asians" holds on to the lead with an extra 25 mil.  That means it only had a 6% drop which is pretty much unheard for the most party as most films tend to drop 40, 50 even 60%+ depending on the competition and the season.  What also makes this pretty unique is the time frame as most schools are back in session and that usually affects the numbers, but not for this film.  Holding ground ... or water, at #2 is "The Meg" with 13 mil as it hits the 100 mil cume mark.  New at #3 is The Happytime Murders with 10 mil and well below all expectations.  This one will have a Sadtime in the end.  Holding at #4 is "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" with 8 mil more as it slowly approaches 200 mil and may get it in another week or two.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Christopher Robin" with 6.3 mil as this one wraps up.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as A.X.L. comes in at #9 with 2.9 mil and actually close to exceptions.  This fledgling studio is starting to diffuse and could be closing shop sooner than they had hoped.

So to add to the heat ... the humidity!  We have enough heat as it but to add humidity to this is just not fun at all.  I can feel the heat of the sun and now I can sweat the heat of the thick air.  We aren't supposed to have this kind of weather!!  WHY oh WHY!  So the other day after doing a bunch of errands, I had to shower and change mid-day because just felt so gross.  I've done that before in the past but not here!  Once in Florida I showered and changed outfits 3 different times in a day that I had to do laundry at the hotel because I went through cloths so fast.  But this is not normal ... climate change people, its real since SoCali is not know for humidity at all and only started becoming normal just a few years ago if that.  Wrong, wrong, wrong ... and I can't imagine the firefighters having to battle these fires in not only the direct heat but the humidity especially all that protective gear they wear for hours and hours!

Weekly Update:
On Thursday had a fun little outing at the park.  Went and saw the Pixar Firework show at Disneyland and got to stand in a little VIP section.  It was a little off center from the main hub but still nice and up front.  The current theme is Pixar and it was cute ... didn't really blow me away necessarily.  I feel like you could insert any theme into this particular version and it would just seem like a nice firework show. They had some visuals projecting on the castle but from the vantage point I was at, did not get the full affect of it so a little lost on me.

At the movies:
Nice surprise at the box office this weekend as Crazy Rich Asians takes top honors for a 5-day gross of 34 million to open!  Above expectations and word-of-mouth is strong on this film.  Ideally it will reach 100 mil cume but coming in at the end-of-Summer, it might struggle a little bit.  Slight drop down to #2 is "The Meg" with another 21.2 mil as it quickly approaches the 100 mil mark, could possibly get it in another week.  New at #3 is Mile 22 with 13.6 mil and just below expectations.  Holding ground at #4 is "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" with an extra 10.5 mil as it closes in on 200 mil cume.  New at #5 is Alpha with 10.5 mil and pretty much hit expectations.

More fires and now in Southern California!  We know this one was caused by arson and currently is out of control.  Fortunately its not that close but I can see the fume of smoke clouds and started to notice ash.  No smoke smell though so that is good (so far).  I have seen some posts from people I know who have to evacuate, right now its voluntary but some of the images I have seen, it is right outside their backyard fence line which is scary!  Others posted of them across the street but any good gust of wind can flare up some embers and carry them over to a house.  Even a house that is miles away, that is how fires "jump freeways" because of winds.  Hope these get under control soon.

Weekly Update:
Earlier in this week I did some re-arranging of a display case.  Or I should say I went and bought another display case because of collectibles I got.  Funny how building this case, there were many pieces almost identical but with maybe one or two subtle differences.  I thought myself to be a really handy IKEA builder of products but this case had a top and bottom wooden piece that were practically interchangeable but one hole for a cord to install a light.  The wood overall was dark colored in nature and I did most of the assembly in the evening when it cooled down and could have the windows open instead of running the AC.  I built part of it when I realized the picture has a small hole but luckily because its IKEA furniture, I could just loosen some screws to fix it.  They are almost like Lego's but practical.

At the movies:
Big surprise at the box office as The Meg takes top honors with a 44.5 million opening!  Sets it on track to break 100 mil but the drop-off this coming week will give us a better picture.  Holding ground at #2 is "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" with another 20 mil and now on pace to hit 200 mil domestic.  Still a ways to go but high-potential for it.  Drop down to #3 is "Disney's Christopher Robin" with an extra 12.4 mil as it struggles along.  New at #4 is Slender Man with 11.3 mil and slightly below expectations but no surprises.  Rounding off the top 5 is BlacKkKlansman with 10.8 mil and a touch above expectations.  Look for this to show up on the award circuit though.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as Dog Days comes in at #12 with only 2.6 to open ... not surprised!

And the heat is on ... it continues for another week.  Now with lots of fires in Northern California!  Appears thousands of acres in various areas have caught ablaze and fire-fighters are working around the clock to get them contained and eventually out.  With our drought still in affect for over 10+ years, it is only getting worse and worse as Global warming continues its damage.  More dry and warm weather year-round with less rain and cooler temps is making things more receptive to easy and quick damage that will spread.  Not a good time right now and fear that so much is now irreversible at this point and time.

Weekly Update:
My stomach has not been feeling well at all lately but its not consistent.  It is very strange ... it sort of cramps up and gets really uncomfortable for a bit and then I am fine.  Of course there are several trips to the bathroom in that process but not sure what is going on.  Its been going on at least five or six days now but the only symptom is the discomfort.  No other things wrong like sore throat, fever, sweats, or being tired and achy.  So, very confused and whatever it is I hope it goes away very soon!  Also afraid to eat anything or eat much as I feel like it will just go right through me (ewwww).  Did I become allergic to something maybe?  But I don't really eat the same things all the time so not sure what is up.  Drinking something fizzy like 7-Up is good!  So stocked piled on that when it was on sale.

At the movies:
No surprises this weekend as "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" takes #1 for its 2nd week earning an extra 35 million.  Now past 100 mil cume, it's on a steady course to break 200 mil potentially.  New at #2 is Disney's Christopher Robin with 25 mil to open and close to expectation.  Word-of-mouth is good but unlikely to bring in the teen to mid-20's crowd.  New at #3 is The Spy Who Dumped Me with 12.4 mil and also close to expectations as well.  Fair reviews should carry this film into at least 3x its opening weekend.  Slight drop down to #4 is "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again" with another 9.1 mil as it closes in on 100 mil, may get it by the end of next weekend.  Rounding off the top 5 is "The Equalizer 2" with 8.8 mil also closing in to 100 mil, may get it in a couple of weeks.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Two this week as one sort of slipped in there last minute ... up first is The Darkest Minds at #8 with only 5.8 mil to open. Below expectations but at the same time, not surprising.  Coming in at #13 with 1000 runs is Death of a Nation with 2.3 mil and given it wasn't on the radar ... that would explain the box office for it as well.
