HOT HOT HOT

Our weather took a turn for the worse this past weekend!  We were enjoying a lot of overcast and cool temps but man, Friday came to start the weekend and said SUMMER IS HERE!  Although the first day of the Summer Solstice was on June 20th so it matches.  But yeah, it reached top tier 90 degrees but at least at night it dropped back down to the 60's.  But is this how it will be till Fall now??  Gah I hope not and we go back to some nice cool temps! Whoever this guy is in this picture, I feel yeah... I just wanted to stay indoors in the dark and not move to stay cool.  But I did have to do errands so car AC is not as expensive than house AC plus all the stores I went to had their AC's cranking.  Not using AC was really nice while it lasted, it uses up a lot of electricity.

Weekly Update:

There has been thing going around comparing prices from 2019 to today and how much things have gone up and blaming the current President of the US.  First off, these things are MOSTLY false and people simply need to learn where and how to shop!  The two things that stand out the most on these lists are eggs and bananas.  They compare 1 dozen eggs at like 1.99 to 2.99 but... I get 2 dozen eggs (at Costco) for 2.99, sometimes less!  So it's essentially cheaper than 2019 prices and that is given if that 2.99 is accurate at all.  The next comparison is bananas saying they were 1.99 for 3lbs to 2.99, again where are they getting these?  Amazon Fresh and Costco have 3lbs for 1.49 and sometimes cheaper as it feels like these 2 locations are completing with each other, it's kind of funny.  But there so many more on these lists like potatoes being like 2.99 per pound but I just bought 5 lbs (at Amazon Fresh) for 2.49 so these numbers are so exaggerated to only blame the current President when in fact he has nothing to do with these prices but fighting a way to reduce them.  Do some research people or just learn how to shop.

At the movies:

Holding on to #1 is Inside Out 2 with another 100 mill and now just over 350 mil cume.  Definitely will hit 400 by next weekend and the drop from last week was well below par which is great.  This film should get to at least 500 but how much further past that is a big question.  Also holding on to #2 is Bad Boys: Ride or Die with 18.8 mil as it inches it's way to 200 mil but unlikely to get there when the Summer has barely just begun.  New at #3 is The Bikeriders with 10 mil to open and a decent number for this indie film.  May not go to much more but not a terrible number for this film. either  Still in the top 5 after 7 weeks is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with 3.6 mil and still trying to reach 200 mil, still unlikely to get there but will be close.  Rounding off the top 5 is The Garfield Movie with 3.6 mil and still will fall short of 100 mil when said and done.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
We have 2 this week, in at #7 is The Exorcism with 2.4 mil and this was a very wide release pattern that didn't pay off.  Will be gone in no time unfortunately.  Right behind it at #8 is Thelma with only 2.2 mil but less than 1500 screens so not as bad but still not great by a long shot.

Gliding around.

I have to say our weather lately has been almost... perfect.  We did have a couple of days that hit high 80's but then the nights dropped down to the 60's.  However, the other days of the week were a very cool 70's and it was perfect weather.  The odd part is we did have a lot of morning overcast till around noon so it looked like it was going to rain (but of course it didn't), it just made it that much nicer in terms of temps.  And when it's cooler I feel like I am saving a lot on things like electricity and maybe even some water as I can use less of both.  And the forecast for next week looks to be just as cool if not a little bit cooler.  Ah, please stay like this Southern California, I would greatly appreciate it!

Weekly Update:

Have you ever noticed the carts at Ikea?  The wheels, it's all about their wheels, they are pretty dang amazing.  I am not sure how they do it but they just glide and pretty much in all directions.  If you have gone through an Ikea, the aisles are pretty zig zag but the carts can flow through them without changing direction you are facing.  So for example, you are going straight facing in the direction you are going and then it turns right.  You can just glide the cart sideways instead of turning it and it just goes so smoothly, it's kind of neat.  I just love their carts!  Silly little things make the shopping experience more enjoyable and also kind of fun cruising through Ikea in their fun carts!

At the movies:

Big numbers at the box office again and the rebound we have been looking for!  New at #1 is Inside Out 2 with a hefty 155 million to open.  Slightly above expectations and hopefully will carry through this Summer.  Slight drop to #2 is Bad Boys: Ride or Die with 33 mil extra and now just over the 100 mil mark as expected.  Climbing back up to #3 is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with 5.2 mil and continues to have a good Summer.  Dropping down to #4 is The Garfield Movie with 5 mil as it continues to crawl to reach 100 mil but will fall short.  Rounding off the top 5 is The Watchers with another 3.7 mil and likely the last time we'll see it.

You are about to embark upon the Great Crusade...

Did it rain this past week??  No, it did not but wow did some dark clouds roll in a few times this week in the afternoon, I thought it was going to rain!  We were supposed to have days in the 80's but as it turned out... we did but only one day that I saw and it hit 81 but felt like mid-70's so not that hot or warm at all.  Our weather is not making any sense but I shouldn't complain about it as it's been really nice.  I did leave my windows open one night and woke up with a very scratchy throat so I hope I don't get sick.  So far it hasn't gotten worse and a little better so I think I'm in the clear but, going to close those windows for now on, at least for awhile.  I thought it wouldn't get that cold but it did (in the 50's).

Weekly Update:

This past Thursday was the 80th Anniversary of the D-Day, the allied invasion of occupied France during World War II.  There were numerous celebrations happening that day in France to commemorate those who are still alive and served during the invasion.  Probably less than a dozen in total are still alive with us and I do hope they were treated with the utmost respect and royalty as this battle was the start of the turning of the war for the allies.  D-Day is the abbreviated name for what is called Day-Day or in other words the day of days... there is also a movie about it that I watch every June 6th called The Longest Day from 20th Century Fox and has an all-star cast from that era including; Seam Connery, Henry Fonda and John Wayne to name a few.  The allies mustered together over 156,000 troops, 11,590 aircrafts, 6,039 sea vessels and 50,000 vehicles.  It included nations from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, Free France versus Germany.  In the end, the allied forces successfully landed and then started the push inland for the rest of France.

At the movies:

The boys are back and at #1 this week! Bad Boys: Ride or Die opens to a decent 56 million which is below it's previous film but much higher than the first two film.  No real buzz on this film in general so 2nd weekend will be the big tell on its overall performance.  Drop down to #2 is The Garfield Movie with 10 mil more as it will finish the Summer below the 100 mil mark.  Also slipping a spot down to #3 is IF with 8 mil and getting SO close to that 100 mil benchmark, could actually get it by next week too.  New at #4 is The Watchers with 7 million and will be a very fast burn out with that opening number.  Rounding off the top 5 is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with 5.4 mil and so far the biggest winner of the Summer but we are only getting started.

What about the drugs?

It continues to be very cloudy here in both Los Angeles and Orange County areas.  I guess this is the "June gloom" they talk about but we've only had 2-days of June so far.  More warmer weather is predicted later in this coming week but I felt like it was supposed to do that this past week but didn't.  It did show us hitting 80's toward the end of the week but we have managed to maintain staying in the low to mid 70's at our peak.  Normal temps remain in the high 60's and night as low as 59 so not sure if this is still Winter or what?  But the overcast every morning till usually about 1 or 2PM is strange.  I like it because it feels cool, almost cold that I need to close up the windows and everything to keep it from freezing inside the house!  At least my heater did not trigger this week but curious to see what next week brings and if it will warm up at all or stay this nice and crisp cold longer.

Weekly Update:

I may have talked about this before or at least just of one of the many medicines out there but Advil vs Tylenol.  I use these for different things, some more specific than others but I'm not even sure if I am using them right!  Ok, Advil is my go-to over-the-counter (OTC) med for like muscle aches and pains.  Mostly if like my neck and/or shoulders are sore, legs from a ton of walking and to possibly prevent overnight cramping up, and my arms feel weaker in the joints.  Now Tylenol I will use if I feel a sore throat or possible cold symptoms developing.  I will use things like Tums, Rolaids and/or Pepto for any stomach issues I have.. depending on where I am.  For example I keep Rolaids in the car and if I feel my stomach being a bit uneasy while driving, Rolaids it is!  I also find them more effective than Tums but I keep Tums near my desk.  Costco sells the big bottle of them for a pretty cheap price but I can feel the difference between those two brands as Tums don't feel as immediate or effective as Rolaids but still help a little.  The best one is Pepto and I'll take it at night if I need to but that is rare.

At the movies:

Sneaking up to #1 in it's 2nd week is The Garfield Movie with an extra 14 million but still won't reach that 100 mil mark, just barely making 50 mil cume.  Also bumping up a notch to #2 is IF with another 10.8 mil and this could hit that 100 mil mark on it's present course.  Drop down to #3, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga with 10.8 mil and also won't hit the 100 mil mark either much like Garfield.  Holding at #4 is Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes with 8.8 mil and overall did well at the box office.  Holding at #5 and rounding off the weekend is The Fall Guy with 4.2 mil and will end up shy of 100 mil when all said and done.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Several this week with over 1200+ screens each!  At #7 is Haikyu! The Dumpster Battle with 3.5 mil and a poor per screen of only $3000, this will fade out fast.  Coming at #8 is In a Violent Nature with 2.1 mil and not even half of the per screen of Haikyu!  And coming in at #9 is Ezra with 1.2 mil and a per screen of only $897 which isn't worth turning on the projector for at many locations.
