Arooooooooooooo

Coyotes!  Lately there has been a lot of activity in my backyard. You see, I have a small backyard and just past that is the golf course, in fact it's hole #4 and the community I live in is called Coyote Hills.  And there are literal coyotes that live around the neighborhood and really only come out at night.  But recently they have been what sounds like fighting and howling here and there.  Maybe they are fighting over a rabbit someone caught?  Or squirrel or duck... yep, we have them all here, even peacocks somethings.  I've seen the coyotes roaming around on very rare occasions, even along my backyard fence just passing by.  They definitely do not want to come near people and they are very skinny that I want to give them food and water.  But they have been very active lately outside (I did not take the picture shown).

Weekly Update:

Had a chance to go to a fun event on Friday night, the preview for Disney's Oogie Boogie Bash in Disney's California Adventure park.  The event started at 11 PM and lasted for about 2 hours (but I left after 90 mins).  It's a condensed version of the actual event but it is also free.  Some rides were open but it was all about the characters and their treat trails.  They had two new characters which were both interesting.  One was Hades from Hercules which is replacing Cruella.  He was good and the effect of his blue hair was pretty neat.  His jokes and quips were good for the relation to the animated movie. The other new character is Doofenschmirtz who is from the show Phineas and Ferb.  I do  not know this show at all and I've only seen a clip of this character.  He reminded me of a Conehead from SNL and was a bit weird as a live-action character with that look.  The voice was pretty good though and the set was fun.  It was also the most popular treat/character line of the whole evening so I guess everyone wanted to see him.  But overall good night and very very crowded for a limited event.  Now I have a big bag of candy I can't eat.  Last year they had Sun Chips which I like but this year... nada.

At the movies:

Re-taking the #1 spot this weekend in it's 5th week is Deadpool & Wolverine with an extra 18.3 million and now in range of 600 mil domestic cume.  Make take a week or two to get there but will get there!  Drop down to #2 with a standard 61% decline is Alien: Romulus with 16.2 mil and also within range of 100 mil cume.  Holding ground at #3 is Ends with Us with 11.9 mil as it goes well into the 100 range as expected.  Won't go much further but still an overall great number to be at.  New at #4 is Blink Twice with 7.3 mil and not sure where this one came from and likely will fade out fast.  Also new at #5 is The Forge with 6.6 mil and also will be bumped out of the rankings as soon as something new comes in (next week).

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week at #8, Lionsgate's new version of The Crow with only 4.6 mil for its debut.

Shake it up!

Shaking and a rolling!  Lately we have had some noticeable earthquakes and though it's only been two in two weeks, it kind of feels like they are getting closer and closer (to me).  So two weeks ago there was about a 5.6 out in Bakersfield which is over 130 miles from me but still felt that wave come through.  Then just this past week there was a 4.4 near Pasadena and this was maybe 20 miles out and thought it felt less being a weaker magnitude, it was closer so it felt almost the same.  I'm not sure if our weather has been a contributor to this because it has been very hot during the day (mid 90's) and then at night drops all the way down to the 60's!  That is a pretty significant temperature drop each day and also rise in the day.  I have to wonder if that is causing some kind of warming and cooling effect that is trigger these.  This coming week is more of the same but warmer, in the 90's again, slightly higher but temps dropping at least 30 degrees at night.

Weekly Update:

I have been so sleepy and tired on the weekends and I think I know why, maybe.  Every morning for work I usually drink a large size cup (maybe 32 ounces?) of diet soda (usually coke from Panera) and of course it has caffeine.  It's ice chilled from being in the fridge overnight and just hits the thirst buttons.  But, on the weekends I tend to not drink any soda and just water or maybe apple juice if I have it.  I might have one diet soda on Saturday but Sundays are completely dry of sodas and that is when I just fall asleep for hours!  So wondering if that is the cause of all that.  Maybe I should drink one on Sunday before noon so it doesn't affect me going to sleep at night for Monday the next day?  Or, just sleep through the day.

At the movies:

New at #1 is Alien: Romulus with a decent 41.5 million as we come to the end of Summer.  Word-of-mouth is good on this film and should eventually reach 100 mil but will take a bit of time.  Seems as if 20th Century Fox is making a comeback but unfortunately not under it's own banner any more.  Drop down to #2 is Deadpool & Wolverine with 29 mil as it still continues to climb, another former 20th Century Fox film. Slight drop to #3 is Ends with Us with 24 mil as just inches away from 100 mil, should get there by end of day tomorrow. Also dropping down to #4 is Twisters with an extra 9.8 mil and will slowly wrap-up in the mid 250 mil range.  Rounding off the top 5 is the 15th Anniversary re-release of Coraline with 8.6 mil and that is pretty much all extra money for it.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
In at a very distant #10 is Stree 2 with only 2.1 mil but it was under 1000 screens.  Not much on this one, will fade out quickly.

Facts & Tips:
"Jingle Bells" was originally for Thanksgiving.

""From the oldest of times, people danced for a number of reasons. They danced in prayer... or so that their crops would be plentiful... or so their hunt would be good. And they danced to stay physically fit... and show their community spirit. And they danced to celebrate." And that is the dancing we're talking about. Aren't we told in Psalm 149 "Praise ye the Lord. Sing unto the Lord a new song. Let them praise His name in the dance"? And it was King David - King David, who we read about in Samuel - and what did David do? What did David do?

What *did* David do? "David danced before the Lord with all his might... leaping and dancing before the Lord." Leaping and dancing. Ecclesiastes assures us... that there is a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to laugh... and a time to weep. A time to mourn... and there is a time to dance. And there was a time for this law, but not anymore. See, this is our time to dance. It is our way of celebrating life. It's the way it was in the beginning. It's the way it's always been. It's the way it should be now." - Kevin Bacon as Ren in
Footloose.

Hot and sticky

Hot Hot and Hot!  It continued to be another hot week here in Sunny Southern California with a bit of humidity again!  I am fine with the straight heat but this humidity is just not something we are used to out here.  It doesn't make sense!  How can you be hot and hot in the shade??  It doesn't make any sense but the nights do continue to drop down in temps, as low as 60 degrees so that is nice to look forward to.  Unlike other states like Florida, I have been outside in the pouring rain at 10:30 PM and it was at least 90 degrees because of the humidity factor.  Weather just didn't make sense, when no sun, supposed to be cooler!!  Not just as hot as it was during the day!  Make it make sense to me!!

Weekly Update:

This past weekend Disney had this semi-Annual D23 convention at the Anaheim Convention Center.  They had an expo part of it but the big part of the event is the convention stage announcements which were pretty much divided into a few sections with the big ones being Movies & TV announcements, Park announcements and Miscellaneous more or less.  I have to say the movie presentations were pretty... lack-luster.  Some disappointments were yet another Toy Story movie, a "live" action Lilo & Stitch and another Lion King based film.  Moana 2 already looks a bit weak so we'll see what happens but the computer generated Stitch was really disappointing.  It would have been way better if they did another traditional animation film instead.  One cool thing was hearing of The Greatest Showman Musical going to the stage, that one makes all the sense and long overdue but I'm sure there was a lot of things to overcome going from 20th Century Fox to Disney.  One thing for sure, I stayed away from that area all week long, it must have been a traffic nightmare.

At the movies:
Still holding on to the #1 spot for a 3rd week in-a-row is Deadpool & Wolverine with 54.2 million extra and now inches away from 500 mil cume.  Likely will get that sometime tomorrow and start it's way to 600!  New at #2 is It Ends with Us earning a very big 50 mil in its debut.  I would say the ad campaign has been pretty amazing on it but 2nd week will be a big tell.  Hanging on to #3 is Twisters with 15 mil as it breaks the 200 mil cume mark but this storm may be calming down.  New at #4 is Borderlands with 8.8 mil and not a great number for the Summer however, it's going up against some major competition.  Drop down to #5 is Despicable Me 4 with an extra 8 mil as it slowly winds down.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week, in at #9 is Cuckoo with only 3 mil, gives it only a per screen average of 2K and this will be gone and out soon.

Hot and Humid!

Boy did it heat up fast this past week!  And the humidity??  Where did that come from??!  We are not known for humidity here so when it hits us, it hits hard and we get confused by this wet sticky heat.  On a few days it hit 90% humidity but remained in the high 80's temp wise.  But it felt thick and exhausting being out and running the AC non-stop became a thing here.  We are a dry heat (normally) so not sure what is going on lately.  Telling you, global warming is a thing and very real!  But question is when will this weather break?  Forecast is showing temps rising into the 90's next week but humidity levels are uncertain.  So will we be our normal dry heat or will it become thick air?  Also, the nights remain cool and at times cold so we still have that to look forward to.  It's rare that when it gets dark it says warm here.

Weekly Update:

Earlier in the week I got to spend some time at Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure over the course of almost 3-days.  I haven't done an actual vacation-like trip in forever and despite the heat and humidity we had, it was fun.  What would have made it perfect, if the weather was 20 degrees cooler and also the parks were PACKED!  Almost every attraction had over an hour wait before 11AM and that is unusual for Disneyland.  It usually doesn't get busy till after 1PM but maybe it's end of Summer, also end of Pixar Fest, reopening of The Haunted Mansion with the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay and also the introduction of Deadpool and Wolverine at Avenger's Campus.  So the parks had a LOT of stuff going on which could be why it was so crowded.  Also D23 is right around the corner so it will continue to be busy another week or so with thousands upon thousands of people attending for that.  I think I will stay away from the parks as much as I can for awhile.

At the movies:

No surprise as Deadpool & Wolverine holds the #1 spot for a 2nd week earning an extra 97 million and now just shy of 400 mil.  It should get that in another day and continue it's way to 500 mil.  It was a significant drop of 54% from last week but also those numbers included an extra Thursday plus everyone wanting to see it as it opened.  Also holding ground at #2 is Twisters with 22.7 mil as it is now shy of 200 mil and also should get that in another day.  New at #3 is Trap with 15.6 mil and this one will come and go quickly.  However, we are heading into end-of-Summer so it could stick around a little longer.  Slight drop to #4 is Despicable Me 4 with 11.3 mil as it passes the 300 mil mark but unlikely to go too much further.  Rounding off the top 5 is Inside Out 2 with 6.7 mil extra as it closes up it's run north of 600 mil which is amazing.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week in wide release coming in at #6 is Harold and the Purple Crayon earning 6 mil.  Neither a good nor terrible number for this time of year.
