Post Christmas Edition
So Christmas came and went ... I started a new tradition of having a nice McDonald's McRib Combo, super size it of course for my X-Mas eve dinner. I did enjoy it and was glad I was able to get it. I am glad this sandwich is seasonal and only comes by once a year because if it was year-round, that might be dangerous. Actually, I can only eat one or two of these a year. Almost like how I can only have eggnog once a year although I did not have any this time around. Is that good or bad? I do not know nor do I care.
Weekly Update:
I really didn't do much this week. Spent most of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day working on all kinds of stuff. I was very happy that Starbucks was open on both days. I really was not a Starbucks person at all till about maybe mid-September and now I visit about 2 to 4 times a week! I mad their gold status pretty quickly but now I do want to cut back to maybe 1 to 3 times a week. That many times is both not that healthy and also adds up on the wallet so, time to cut back some. I just hope they don't continue to give me cool offers that I want to take advantage of! Curse you Starbucks and your marketing schemes ... and effectiveness!
At the movies:
For a second week in a row, "The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies" wins again with a holiday total of 41.4 million at the box office. It now has a cume of over 165 mil and is steaming along nicely to reach the 200 mil mark. New at #2 is Unbroken with a solid 47.3 mil 5-day total (31.8 weekend) and surpasses expectations. Also new at #3 is Into the Woods with 46.1 mil (31 weekend) and also above expectations. Holding ground at #4 is "Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb" with another 20.6 mil as it struggles to reach 100 mil cume. Rounding off the top 5 for the holidays is "Annie" with 16.6 mil and will definitely fall short of the 100 mil cume.
New movies that did not make the top 5:
A few this weekend that were in semi-wide release. In at #7 is The Gambler with only 9.3 mil and this was a full release. Not a good sign for this film but could potentially have some award buzz about it. At #15 with just over 1,000 screens is Big Eyes with only 4.4 mil for the holidays. More award than box office buzz on this one. Quick release at #16 is The Interview, after much controversy on the film it opens with only 1.8 mil. Not a bad number with 300 screens but then again, not a great per theatre average to be considered successful. The VOD numbers on this may be better, but not sure.

Britain was the first country to register a patent on polyester.
"Cadet Lewis Johns just taught you the most important lesson you'll learn here at Tuskegee. If you don't believe in God, you'd better find a damn good substitute." - Courtney B. Vance as Lt. Glenn in the TV movie "The Tuskegee Airmen."
Remembering Pearl Harbor ...
Yesterday was "a date which will live in infamy" - President Franklin D. Roosevelt. 73 years ago, the Japanese Imperial Navy launched a massive air strike early in the morning at the US Naval Base in Hawaii. It was a surprise attack which then launched the US into the Second World War. Some say it was a complete surprise but I am one to hold the theory that the US government knew it would happen and needed something for the US people to rally behind and entering the war without any question or hesitation. The lives of few to launch the war machine of millions. A sad thought but it is a very strong possibility and now we take pause and remember that day.
Weekly Update:
RAIN!! Finally got some rain and it was a pretty decent amount. We are still in dire need of more rain but it was a nice big drop in the drought bucket. We are expecting more rain later this week, I just hope it come at least twice as much as the previous week. We would need maybe a solid 2 weeks of this rain to bring us out of the drought. HOWEVER, we would need maybe another week to sustain us for a year or two ... each day gives us a significant supply depending on how much is dropped. Heavy and hard please plus it washes my car for me which is always good!
At the movies:
No big surprises this weekend at the box office as we go into the post-Thanksgiving slump. Holding on to #1 for a third weekend is "Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1" with another 21.6 million as it steadily climbs towards 300 mil cume. Keeping up as well at #2 is "Penguins of Madagascar" with an extra 11.1 mil. Gaining is "Horrible Bosses 2" with another 8.6 mil but this comedy is quickly fizzling out unlike its predecessor. Dropping down to #4 is "Big Hero 6" with 8.1 mil as it slowly makes its way to a possible 200 mil cume. Rounding off the top 5 is "Interstellar" with 8 mil. Continued mixed word-of-mouth keeps this on the top 5 as well as having award buzz.
New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as we only had one new movie! Showing up in the #9 spot is The Pyramid which earned 1.4 million, well below expectations but at the same time, not surprising.

John Adams was the only President to be defeated by his Vice President, Thomas Jefferson.
"The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking- I highly suggest you try it." - Mike Myers as Dr. Evil in "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery."
