The weather continues to get cooler and cooler. We are approaching Winter and it is coming (I hope). I just like to have an actual season for a change. We had snow like conditions last year with some ice but just a little slushy like ice. So is winter coming for real this year or will it tease us and not really be one? The weeks will tell us as we head towards the end of the year. A little change up would be a nice ... well, change. I guess that is also the price you pay for living in a state such as California and a reason such as SoCali but we see the mountains with snow!!
Weekly Update:
Overall the week was pretty normal but on Saturday night went to a game night that happens about every other month. Bunch of friends and random people getting together to play card and board games, maybe the occasional role-playing game like Dungeons and Dragons. Saturday had almost all of that including a small group learning how to play DnD and I learned a lot about ... birds! Played a game called "Wingspan" that was essentially about birds ... yes, birds! You build your sort of bird community and certain birds can do certain things and you get points along the way. It was really interesting because not only are you playing a game but at the same time learning something. Each bird card has a picture of the bird along with it's Latin name and then a fact about them at the bottom with a world map so you know where these birds are from or could be found. It was a really fascinating game and enjoyed it!
At the movies:
The race for first is ... Ford v. Ferrari with a nice 31 million opening. Unfortunately it was below expectations but still good for the win which Fox needed desperately. Word-of-mouth is solid on this film and could see some award nominations in the near future. Drop down to #2 is "Midway" with another 8.8 mil and this one will fly short of any notable overall gross. New at #3 is Charlie's Angels with only 8.6 to open and a very disappointing one at that. Small drop to #4 is "Playing with Fire" earning another 8.6 mil and may burn out soon. Rounding off the top 5 is "Last Christmas" with only 6.7 mil extra and last time we will see it.
New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week as The Good Liar comes in at #7 with only 5.7 mil and below expectations but not by much.

“I've got a pretty good idea what children are, and we're not children. Children can lose sometimes, and nobody cares. Children aren't in armies, they aren't commanders, they don't rule over forty other kids, it's more than anybody can take and not get crazy." - Khylin Rhambo as Dink Meeker in "Ender's Game."
Saturday night / Sunday morning was the end of Daylight Saving Time. Which means we fall back an hour at the stroke of midnight and then wait for midnight to happen again ... OR, you wait till 1 AM and then get anothe... wait, either way you get two midnights! But what this one is known best for? An extra hour of sleep! The nights will come sooner around 5PM but the sun will rise later, around 6AM. The time of daylight is shorter and thus farmers adjust their times with crops and feeding. A lot of people do not like it but they also forget this is for farming and helping them. I mean without farms, we can't survive or maybe we can but will complain and struggle.
Weekly Update:
Oh so I went to the parks again for a quick stop and to pick up these neat Halloween name tags for 2019. Yes, I know, I got them AFTER Halloween and they are date specific but hey, they were only $8 each and have Lock, Shock and Barrel on them from "A Nightmare Before Christmas" at the top. I never planned on wearing it while at work but thought it was a cool keepsake for just being around for Halloween 2019 and everything themed for Oogie Boogie related stuff. Plus not everyone will get one, just those who paid for it and who even knew about them. Most name tags like the 60th Celebration were made for the entire Disneyland cast members so everyone who worked that year got one. So, why not and now I will be on the look out for future ones because they are kind of neat.
At the movies:
New month new #1! Taking the box office crown is Terminator: Dark Fate with only 29 million to open. A very disappointing number as expectations (and tracking) were pointing double or triple that. I think this is the final sign that this franchise is done. Slight drop to #2 is "Joker" with another 13.9 mil and just shy of 300 mil cume. It should get that by sometime tomorrow. Down to #3 is "Maleficent: Mistress of Evil" with 12.2 mil more and struggling to reach 100 mil cume. New at #4 is Harriet with 12 mil to open and slightly above expectations but not by much. Rounding off the top 5 is "The Addams Family" with another 8.5 mil and still performing in it's 4th week.
New movies that did not make the top 5:
Two this week ... At #9 is Motherless Brooklyn with 3.7 to open and no surprises here. New at #10 is Arctic Dogs with 3.1 mil and also no surprises as well.

"There are some things success is not. It's
not fame. It's not money or power. Success is waking up in the morning so
excited about what you have to do that you literally fly out the door. It's
getting to work with people you love. Success is connecting with the world and
making people feel. It's finding a way to bind together people who have nothing
in common but a dream. It's falling asleep at night knowing you did the best
job you could. Success is joy and freedom and friendship. And success is love." - Kay Panabaker as Jenny Garrison in "Fame."
