What a big day for news, or weekend I should say. Just to highlight a couple of stories (with another big one in the "Other News" section), the 2008 XXIX Olympics have started in Beijing, China. Already day one is scarred by a killing of the father of former 2004 volleyball Olympian Elisabeth Bachman. While visiting the sites, a man jumped out and stabbed the father multiple times, injury the wife with life-threatening wounds and also injuring the tour guide. In the country of Georgia (Russia), fighting broke out and roughly 1,500 soldiers and civilians have been killed. Russian tanks and troops hit the separatist province of South Ossetia and the death toll figures are unconfirmed.

Weekly Update:
I had my first full week at the new job, overall was pretty good. Still settling in and working out some computer issues but that will be all working in no time. The work environment is WAY better and it is not crazy at all. Not that I mind crazy but I like productive-crazy and not drama-crazy. Drama-crazy is just stupid and has no point or purpose plus it does nothing but create unneeded stress and work is created upon work. With productive-crazy you are just busy but things are getting done and at the end of the day you know you either finished something with quality or substance ... or both even. But this is just week one and it is more getting settled in and learning new ropes, it's good.

At the movies:
No surprise here as "The Dark Knight" takes the box office crown once again with an extra 26.0 million. This movie is now in its 4th week and has earned over 440 mill cume! I do see a 500 mil domestic total in its future and will be the biggest hit of this summer. New at #2 is the stoner comedy Pineapple Express with a nice sum of 22.4 mil ... pretty much what I expected. Holding some ground at #3 is "The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor" with another 16.1 mil. New at #4 is Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2 with 10.8 mil. Rounding off the top 5 is "Step Brothers" with an extra 8.9 mil.

Other News:
Very sad news hits us this weekend as comedian, film and TV star Bernie Mac passed away on Saturday morning. Due to complications with pneumonia and an on-off fight with sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease, he passed away at a hospital in Chicago. Bernie probably most remembered as of late for his re-occurring role in the hit film franchise "Ocean's Eleven" and most recently for the box office summer hit of 2007 "Transformers" playing the role of the used car salesman that sold Bumblebee. Bernie was also one of the original Kings of Comedy with Steve Harvey selling out stadiums of fans for his stand-up routine. Not to be downplayed was his hit TV show, "The Bernie Mac Show" which earned him a prestigious Peabody Award for the sitcom. Truly a great entertainer and comedian that the world will miss, he was 50.

ALSO! Song legend Isaac Hayes was pronounced dead on Sunday in Memphis at the Baptist East Hospital after a family member found him. Hayes best known as of late for his baritone voice as Chef in "South Park" but also credited for laying down the groundwork for disco. Hayes also won both the Grammy and Oscar for his theme to the movie "Shaft" in 1971. Cause of death is unknown at this time, Hayes was 65.
