Pageant of the Masters

This past Thursday I had the opportunity to attend an performance down in Laguna Beach called Pageant of the Masters and I must say I was in complete awe.  It was a really nice cool day into the evening (in the 60's) with a high fog rolling in along the hill tops.  I had heard of this event but never been to it and glad I was able to go. So what is it?  Well short version is it's a show of seeing living portraits while a sort of story is being told.  Living portraits?  They take art work being it paintings, sculptures or photography and make it look big and bold on a stage.  All the people in the paintings (for example), if they are in the foreground then it's actual people standing completely still while the narrator is telling a story about the painting and/or artist before it fades out to change to a new one.  They even take a moment in the show to show what a change-out looks like and it's simply amazing.  Sometimes you don't think it's actual people till they do some intentional movement that goes along with the story.  However, most of them there is none and you just know it's people up there.  Truly an experience to take in and every year it's a different theme.  This year was titled A La Mode which encompassed fashion throughout history.

Weekly Update:

Sunday I tried a new place to eat called Cava.  It is a new (to me) Mediterranean place that works like Subway and Chipotle where you start with your base (bowl or pita) then sauces, protein and toppings.  You basically make your own gyro but not in the truest of sense in that they don't cut the meat off a spit like they do in more traditional Greek places but, this Mediterranean, not Greek.  They all share a similar flavor palette in that region but are different in various ways.  I had basically a grilled chicken gyro with feta cheese and tzatziki sauce and it was overall pretty good.  My first bite did have some kind of small tiny rock or maybe part of a bone but otherwise the reset was good.  I also got a side of their pita chips with a dill tzatziki dip and that was pretty good.  I will say the chips were VERY oily and heavy, I was hoping they would be more light and not greasy so I'll know now to get them next time.  What is interesting is there is an actual Greek place across the street that I haven't been to in a long time.  I should go back and check it out and compare food and prices to each other before going back.

At the movies:

Holding on to the #1 spot for a 2nd weekend is Despicable Me 4 with another 44.7 million and now passing the 200 mil mark!  On pace to reach 300 but will take some time.  New at #2 is Longlegs with 22.6 mil which is a pretty solid number despite it being Summer.  But, this film will likely dip quickly for more Summer slated tittles.  Slight dip to #3 is Inside Out 2 with 20.7 mil and now inches away from 600 mil, should get there within the next 10-days probably.  Also slipping down to #4 is A Quiet Place: Day One with 11.8 mil as it breaks the 100 mil mark.  New at #5 is Fly Me to the Moon with 10 mil to open and will likely drop out next week.

New movies did not make the top 5:
In at #9 is Indian 2 with 2 mil to open on a medium release pattern.  Per screen average is terrible so will probably lose a good chunk of them next week.
