a scary night

4th of July Edition

The 4th of July was this past Thursday and it was a very different one for me.  For over the past 15 years I had to comfort an animal between Shadow and Orion.  This was the first time in over a decade that I didn't have to worry about one or both of them and how all the fireworks were going off.  But, I couldn't help but wonder about all the other animals out there fearing the noise and confused what was going on.  No matter how big or small of an animal you have or are out there, their more sensitive than our ears can hear every pop, boom and bam from miles away.  Because of them, I've kind of grown to dislike fireworks for the most part and what it does to them.  But also, let's not forget people who are sensitive to it and those who suffer from PTSD!  They are just as sensitive to it all as well.  I don't mind the controlled fireworks shows in gatherings, it's all the random neighborhood ones who get fireworks that are more dangerous and in many cases illegal for various reasons.  I hope everyone made it through (both pets and humans) OK.

Weekly Update:

I am not a big fan of poke bowls but I do like it when its cooked foods like shrimp.  But otherwise don't care of the raw fish stuff in general.  So there is a new poke place opening down the street from me but what I don't understand is that it's replacing another poke place that was in there before but did no business thus failing and closing.  So my mind wonders who thinks, hey, let's open a NEW poke place over this old poke place!  It will be fresh and new (unlike the previous place that was fresh and new).  So, yeah, not sure how it will do, the other places around it don't seem to be busy at all which includes Five Guys (always so dead in there), a new place that took over for Yoshinoya which did well there too.  I am tempted to try the new place but not sure what it is yet.  And Paris Banquette which is good but WAY over priced compared to 85 Degrees and other pastry places.  So, going to pass on the poke places as there are tons around already... yeah, I don't get it.

At the movies:

Coming in strong, a new #1 hits the box office this holiday weekend.  New at #1 is Despicable Me 4 with 122.6 million over the 5-day holiday (75 mil for the weekend).  Strong numbers and already on track to hit the 200 mil mark in about a week.  Drop down to #2 is Inside Out 2 with 30 mil extra as it breaks the 500 mil cume.  Solid track to hit 600 as well.  Also slipping down to #3 is A Quiet Place: Day One with 21 mil and so close to 100 mil, should get there in a day or two.  New at #4 is MaXXXine with 6.7 mil and not a bad number for this film.  Rounding off the top 5 is Bad Boys: Ride or Die with 6.6 mil and will fall short of hitting the 200 mil mark but still did well overall.

New movies that did not make the top 5:
Just one this week, in at #7 is Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot with only 3.2 mil for a wide release and will be out of theatres in no time.

Quote of the week:
"Travel becomes a strategy for accumulating photographs." - Susan Sontag

Facts & Tips:
Koalas and humans are the only animals with unique fingerprints.

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.  Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate.  All those moments will be lost in time... like tears in rain... Time to die." - Rutger Hauer as Batty in
Blade Runner.
