NEW YEARS EDITION

Another year passed and a new one upon us ... yet its just another weekend and day for me.  I did work New Year's Eve but was off by the afternoon.  However I still had to work the next day on New Year's Day.  So, it was just another day, staying in and trying to keep the dogs calm.  This and 4th of July are bad days for animals and I hope people remembered to keep they in doors so they don't freak out and try to run away.  That is sad they get so disorientated and distracted they have no idea where they are or where they are going.  By the time it is over, they are completely lost.  Its a day to be safe but not just for humans, for every one.

Weekly Update:
This week has been a devastating one.  Not just in the world in general but for the entertainment industry and all associated with it.  We have lost several greats this year but in one week we lost two of what I would consider Hollywood Royalty.

On Tuesday our Intergalactic Princess passed away after suffering from a heart attach on her way back from London.  Carrie Fisher, best known as Princess Leia from the Star Wars franchise passed at the age of 60.  She had lead a very hard life in this business and the dark side that came with it of drugs.  She was also known as a writer and and played the interests in one my favorite films, "The Blues Brothers."  She leaves us with legacy of works that will last generations as it so far has proven to do so already from the first Star Wars in 1977.

On Wednesday, the very next day, her mother had a stroke.  Better known as Debbie Reynolds who is a silver screen icon.  She was rushed to the hospital where she later passed away.  She was 84.  One of my other favorites is "Singing in the Rain" where she placed opposite the late great Gene Kelly and the multi-talented Donald O'Connor.  If Carrie was a Princess, she certainly was our Queen.  Of the principle cast from that film, she was the last surviving member of an amazing trio.

Our Hollywood Royal Family lost two amazing icons ...

At the movies:
No surprises the last holiday weekend of 2016 as "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" continues its domination at the box office earning another 63.3 million for the 4-day weekend.  It is now over 400 mil domestic for just 3 weeks and should get over 500 in 2 to 3 weeks at this rate.  Currently this places the film #2 in top grossing films of 2016  right behind "Finding Dory" and gives Disney 6 of the top 10 spots as well, 4 of the top 5 alone!  Gaining a bit at #2 is "Sing" with another 56.4 mil and closing in at 200 mil, could have that next week.  Hanging around at #3 is "Passengers" with another 20.7 mil and struggling to break that 100 mil mark.  Still in there at #4 is "Moana" with another 14.3 mil as it breaks 200 mil cume.  Rounding off the top 5 is "Why Him?" earning 13 mil for its 2nd week.

Quote of the week:
"Let us never know what old age is. Let us know the happiness time brings, not count the years." - Ausonius

Facts & Tips:
In one day, a full-grown oak tree expels 7 tons of water through its leaves.

"Don't you get it, man? We're all losers! Everyone in this school! Hell, everyone in this town! Out of all the kids who graduate, maybe half will go to college, and two will leave the state to do it! I'm not afraid to be called a loser because I can accept that's what I am." - Cory Monteith as Finn Hudson in the TV series "Glee."
