LABOR DAY SPECIALHOT HOT and more HOT! This past weekend saw daily temps at 100 degrees or higher in just about all over the SoCal area. I don't remember it this hot in a long time in both day and night. Evenings probably averaged about 85 to 90 degrees.
Weekly Update:This was a freak'n HOT but enjoyable Labor Day Weekend. On Sunday spent the day at the California Speedway which at the high point was 130 degrees and the track measured at 150 degrees. But when night came it dropped down to about 100 so wasn't so bad. In the end of the Sharp AQUOS 500, the checkered flag went to #48 Jimmie Johnson which makes this his 2nd win in a row at this course and 5th overall at the Speedway.
At the movies:
Horror wins the week which is no surprise. Even though the numbers are small, its still enough to give Halloween top honors this holiday weekend with just 31 million. MGM takes top honors which is SOOOO rare but they have traditionally won the Labor Day Weekend despite this being a remake. Holding in at the #2 spot is "Superbad" with an extra 15.6 mil. New at #3 is the comedy Balls of Fury with a holiday gross of 13.8 and an opening cume of 16.8 (Wednesday opening). At #4 is "The Bourne Ultimatum" with 13.2 mil and a cume of over the 200 mil mark. Rounding off the top 5 is "Rush Hour 3" with 10.4 mil more.
New movies that did not make the top 5: Only one this week and its no real surprise here as Death Sentence earns a big 5.2 million and DOA.

Other News:
This is kind of sad, a report came out last week that there are enough (registered) hand guns in the US to arm 9 out of 10 people. On the flip side of that, Nigeria has enough for 1 out of 100 people. So what this boils down to is out of 875 million known firearms, US citizens own 270 million ... 31% for one country. Did you also know after 2 years there are still Hurricane Katrina victims waiting for promised aid and still living in shelters ... progress, its what it is all about!
