HEAT WAVE!!! So for the most part the week started off pretty cool but then WHAM, Friday we get hit with some high temps in the low 90's and then on Saturday it was 99 and even hit 100 degrees at times. Wow, is summer here already?? I thank the man who discovered/invented the air conditioning unit, he has saved many of my days and. Thank you sir (or madam!).

Weekly Update:
I attended (once again) the 2nd "GeekFest" for 2008 this past Saturday and got some decent shots with some folks. Heard a lot of good stories as well and of course just watching the crazy-folks who attend (excluding myself naturally):

*Elena Verdugo- an INCREDIBLY sweet sweet lady who had me give her a peck on the cheek before I could leave for the day.
*Michael Beck- nice guy and in one of my favorite movies, Xanadu.
*Carl Ballantine- very sweet man.
*Virginia Davis- one of the nicest people you could meet.
*Dirk Benedict- an ok guy but boy, did he have a lot to talk about!
*Michael DeLuise- at first he wasn't the nicest of guys but later he turned out pretty cool.
*Dom Deluise- such a nice and funny man!
*Richard Dreyfuss- film legend and all around cool guy.

At the movies:
Laughing at the box office as Baby Mama takes the #1 spot this weekend with a decent 18.3 million. Not a great number but good enough to earn it the top spot for one weekend. New at #2 is Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay with only 14.6 mil to open. Small drop to #3 is "The Forbidden Kingdom" with 11.2 mil more. Another small drop to #4 is "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" with an extra 11 mil. Rounding off the top 5 is "Nim's Island" with 4.5 mil and probably the last time we will see this film in the top 5.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Only one this week and its no surprise here as Deception comes in at the #10 spot with only 2.2 mil.

This is a little bit disturbing, just the other day an earthquake hit Mexico and on Saturday another smaller one hit Reno, NV. Looks like the plates are shifting a bit again and California is right in the middle. Plus our weather lately has been very hot to very cold to hot again. Analyst say that possibly the next big quake for California may not be Northern Cal but Southern. Also that the quake could come from the next day to 30 years from now ... what!? What kind of guess is that??? I think someone I know will get in a fender-bender car accident any time from this Tuesday to April 20th, 2038. Now let's see how accurate my prediction is! Who are these people that we trust their judgement when its over a span of 30 years?!?! That is like saying I could find one red colored barn somewhere between Canada and South America, seriously!!! Now if they said the time frame could be between 1 to 2 years, ok then, that is more accurate then a 30-year time span.

"It was an old tradition. Only the most dutiful of daughters would put her own flesh in a soup to save her mother's life. My mother did this with her whole heart even though my grandmother had disowned her. This is how a daughter honors her mother. The pain of the flesh is nothing. The pain you must forget. This is the most important sacrifice a daughter can make for her mother."- Lisa Lu as An-Mei Hsu in "The Joy Luck Club."

So the month of April is coming to a close soon (already half-way over) and what happened to the "spring showers" or "April showers" as they are sometimes called? We had the cool weather this past week and some days of clouds but no water. Give me something to enjoy! But the month is not over yet so there is still some hope. Maybe we will get one day before the month is over for a little rain, just a little, that is not much to ask for is it?

Weekly Update:
Yet another week of semi-stress but not as bad as some of the other weeks lately. Still trying to recover in general from my latest business trip to the San Francisco area. I use to like work because it wasn't really work, it was that sort of "love what you do" type of job. Now it is work and work sucks. It is to the point were you don't feel like going in and you can't wait to get out of there. What happened you may ask? Too much stuff to list it all that it's not even worth it. At least I have my hobbies to keep me "happy" busy. I guess that is one nice thing about blog'in ... I can vent all I want!

At the movies:
Martial arts chops its way into the top slot this week as
The Forbidden Kingdom earns a nice 20.9 million in its debut. This is a long awaited matching of the two international powerhouses in the same movie (Jackie Chan and Jet Li). New at #2 is Forgetting Sarah Marshall with 17.3 mil. Holding on to the #3 spot is "Prom Night" with an extra 9.1 mil to the dance. New at #4 is 88 Minutes with a disappointing 6.8 mil. Rounding off the top 5 is "Nim's Island" with another 5.9 mil and no rescue in sight.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Just one this week in semi-wide release is Expelled with only 3.2 mil and class is completely dismissed.

Formula 1 racer
Danica Patrick wins her first IndyCar victory at the Japan 300 in Motegi, Japan on Sunday. She is the first female in IndyCar history to win not only this race but any IndyCar race. Also, talk about close races as she finished just 5.85 seconds in front of pole-sitter Helio Castroneves. This was Danica's 50th race when she turned professional, what a way to celebrate! The 26-year-old took the lead on the 198th lap of the 200-lap race. This is an impressive milestone in history and a BIG congratulations to Danica! Hopefully this will be the start of a streak for her in IndyCar and open the doors for other women for the auto-racing sports.

It's a HEAT WAVE!!! Wow did it get hot this past week, Sunday alone was almost 100 degrees! Spring time is Summer time for here and Fall is just late Summer, go figure. How long will this last? Probably a long time knowing the weather patterns a bit but oh well, good thing I spent most of the week in San Francisco where it was heck-a-cold at night and very windy during the day. I remembered to bring a jacket!!!

Weekly Update:
So most of last week I spent up north in the San Francisco bay area and I have to say, it was a nice trip although very tiring. I think I haven't really recovered from my surgery so traveling is harder for me right now. I get tired faster and just trying to sleep or get comfortable is pretty difficult at times. It was like that in Vegas but even more so because of all the running around and craziness that comes with Vegas. The weather was nice (for me) and had some good eats as well. I always say its a nice place to visit but not sure if I would want to live there. I thought LA traffic was bad! I mean it is but at least I have options. In SF you really don't.

At the movies:
Horror gets the box office crown this weekend as Prom Night earns a hefty 22.7 million in its debut weekend. New at #2 is Street Kings with only 12 mil to open. Holding strong at #3 is "21" with another 11 mil. Still surviving at #4 is "Nim's Island" with an extra 9 mil. Scoring some extra points at #5 is "Leatherheads" with 6.2 mil more but the game is about out of time on this one.

New movies that did not make the top 5: Just one this week as Smart People shows up at #7 with only 4.2 mil to open. Either people were smart enough to not see it or there are too few smart people to know about it.

The famous baseball #762 hit by Barry Bonds went on auction for a small sum of around $376k. This is pretty small considering it is the last ball Bonds hit to date and the record-breaking 756 ball sold at $752k. So why the low sum for the record holding ball so far? Bonds isn't playing at the moment and no one is near the record as of yet. Could it also be a low bid simply because many feel the record is tainted with his steroids use (allegedly but seriously, come on now). The Giants did not bring Bonds back this season and so far he has found no takers on the free agency market. I guess they simply do not want a player who can't play nice with others.

Cloudy with a tease of rain! That was the forecast last week if you stepped outside around here. The clouds rolled in but nothing fell. The temperatures dropped and still the weather was playing with me. Oh sure the sun came out a couple of times to say, "Hi, how are ya?" But the weather otherwise was just messing with me. Where are the "April Showers?"

Weekly Update:
This past week for the most part was quiet which is very nice these days. It seems like when it gets hectic now, there is actual stress involved. I never use to stress out or get stressed out but lately when you get hit with stupidity after stupidity, it's kind of unavoidable. This coming week should also be a quiet week as well since I will be out of town in the San Francisco area. The weather is projected to be cold during the day and super cold at night. I better not forget my jacket like I did on the last trip but it worked out ok because I never went outside during the last trip.

At the movies:
The gambling at the box office continues to pay off as "21" wins the jackpot for the 2nd weekend in a row with an extra 15.1 million. Scoring just short at #2 is Leatherheads with 13.5 mil to open. In at #3 is the family adventure Nim's Island with 13.3 mil. Sounding in at #4 is "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears A Who" with another 9.1 mil and now over 130 mil cume. Rounding off the top 5 is The Ruins with only 7.8 mil.
